Cigar Review: 2002 Cuban Partagas Corona
By Jesse | March 26, 2007 |
I stumbled across these aged Cuban lasses and couldn’t pass them up. Every one of them has smoked beautifully. The construction is beautiful with a flawless wrapper, consistently firm throughout, and a nice easy draw.
That barnyard smell that lingers around all unlit Cubans was exceptionally strong on these. My eyes watered with the pleasure as I lovingly eyed my new found treasures. My wife turned her nose up at the “disgusting” smell, she’ll come around.
Age hasn’t mellowed the spiciness of this cigar but definitely added to the complexity. After first two puffs this cigar sinks in the teeth with a spicy pepper and ginger bite with underlying hints of molasses. The spiciness never comes across as harsh this cigar is easy to smoke. The cigar really doesn’t change from start to finish, each puff a slightly different combination of the same flavors making for a really interesting smoke.
I would smoke happily till the end of my days if I had a humidor full of only these cigars. The corona has become my favorite sized cigar and this cigar is smooth enough to smoke in the morning and complex enough for an evening smoke. This cigar is one I’ll judge all others by. This cigar gets my 10 out of 10.
