I actually almost never have a libation with a cigar except coincidently. Of courze, there’s a lot of coincidences.

Hey, here’s a drink I created the other night while having an RP corojo perfecto.

1 1/2 tequila
1 coffee liquer
2-3 half & half
good scraping of nutmeg (or dash of powder)

Serve on ice

Why buy a glass when one can purchase an entire bottle of quality porto for $20?

For starters, I recommend you look to a house’s branded line such as a Warre’s Warrior, Sandeman’s Founder’s Reserve or Graham’s Six Grapes. These are sometimes known as Vintage Character Port (there are also ports without a “frontmark”, simply called vintage character).

Another good direction for beginners is Late Bottled Vintage, aka LBV.

They make economical and tasty port style wines in Oz – look to Clocktower, Galway Pipe or even Whiskers Blake.

Just wanted to leave an update. Yesterday I received some Oliva Series G robustos that I had ordered from Famous Smoke shop online. They are running a special on the five packs at $10.05 per fiver which makes them less expensive than the boxes at two bucks and a penny per stick. These smokes are fast moving their way up to the top of my list of favorite Cameroons along with the Montecritso Afriques and I was very excited to get them, especially at that price. Anyways, I just got home from work and had mixed myself a martini to drink on the deck when I saw these litlle beauties. I grabbed one and sparked it up wondering iabout the mix of drink and smoke. Well I have to tell you I will never smoke anything but a cammie with gin again. The combination of the sweet almost slightly perfumy flavor of the wrapper and the aromatic and sweet flavor of the gin was an absolute winner!!!! Each complimeted the other perfectly. I advise all martini drinkers to grab you favorite cammie and give it a try. You won’t be disappointed.

It all depends what I want out of my cigar. If I’m looking to really determine the cigar’s flavor and characteristics I’ll stick with water. If I’m smoking just to enjoy myself I’ll pretty much drink whatever I want.

What I drink depends on the time of day as well as the cigar. I think coffee is a wonderful accompanyment anytime and with any smoke. Espresso and cappucino are also good if you favor them. Later in the day I really like a nice red wine but, you might go with white for a milder cigar. (I prefer medium to full bodied myself). I am a bourbon drinker by nature by don’t believe it is a really good match for many cigars. If I want my Jack Daniels then I smoke a nice heavy maduro. However, I find that the slightly fruity taste of brandy seems to go better with many cigars. Things that I definitely avoid are overly sweet drinks or high alcohol content beverages. Both compete too much with the taste of the leaf.

My tastes change from week to week. I was drinking Dalmore Cigar Malt Scoth for awhile, I’ve got some Evan Williams 9 Year (I think) Bourbon I haven’t touched in awhile.

That's a very valid concern! I've been to Portugal and have done some tastings at several of the distributors in Porto (Pictures: Click Here) and I find it a bit confusing at times too. Tawny, Ruby, White, Vintage, Late Bottled Vinage... too many choices. Personally, I'd recommend asking to try a glass of the 10 or 20 year old tawny the next time you're at the bar. Depending on the brand the 10 will probably cost you $7-12 and the 20 will be noticeably smoother and may cost up to $20. I'm a fan of Taylor Fladgate myself, but Grahams and Dow are pretty good too. It's never a bad idea to ask a knowledgeable bartender for a recommendation either. Admin edited comment to hyperlink URL
