Awesome topic, Jack. Tough one. Here goes...

LA TRADICION CUBANA MINI-TORPEDO: Shade wrapper at the top of its game. Smooth and creamy, but with evolving body. A morning smoke for those take Tabasco on their eggs.

NACIONALES W CORONA: Proof that you don’t need a monster ring gauge to get a complex blend. And our hypothetical newbie would benefit from an early introduction to the Pepin Garcia flavor.

PUNCH GRAN CRU #2 MADURO: The only CTBL smoke anyone has made a case for is the Party Black, so I figured I’d weigh in with an alternative. Properly aged, the Gran Cru #2 is the benchmark CTBL stick. Broadleaf sweetness, earthy Honduran filler... hell, yeah.

HOYO DE MONTERREY DOUBLE CORONA: When it’s right, it’s the ultimate adventure smoke. The best example of what 7" sticks have to offer – two hours of ever-changing flavors, running the gamut in terms of body without boring you or beating you down.

BOLIVAR ROYAL CORONA: Pound-for-pound, the best stick on planet Earth. The epitome of the blender's art.

"Not all of these are cigars I’d smoke every day but they’d give you an idea of the range and depth of the cigars out there." from Cigar Jack and thats why I stand behind them get a range of smokes under your belt and then really see what you like. And for the Anos this will be the last year that they make them so I will need to bight the bullet and get a box before they are gone.

I really need to snag some of the Aurora 100's before they are gone.

La Aurora 100 Anos
Arturo Fuente Anejos Shark #77
La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero Chiselito
CAO ITALIA
PARTAGAS BLACK
The reason I picked these is one I love them all. The Sand Shark can be bought for $9 a little high but not too bad, La Aurora 100 Anos is the most $ but it is one of the best premium cigars I have ever had. The rest are nicely priced and give you a range of medium to strong cigars and if you are starting out I feel you should try a lot of diffrent types to get a feel of what you do and do not like. .02

Boy you guys are a little tough on the rookies aren't you? Some of those sticks pack a punch and drain the wallet! Here is my list, most on the milder size and a bit more economical:

CAO Gold - the one that hooked me and still a staple
Rocky Patel Connecticut - mild but flavorful
Indian Tabac Cuban Corojo - a nice intro to corojo. save the Camacho for later
Nestor Placencia Reserve Maduro - Real maddie, great price from a man who knows cigars
5 Vegas Classic - A little step up in power, very affordable.
They can graduate from there as their tastes and budgets dictate.

The Opus X just doesn't do it for me. I love Torano cigars, but the Noventa is one cigar I haven't had the time to smoke. I've been searching out some lesser known brands of late and found some fantastic gems out there. I'm going to be reviewing the La Tradicion Cubana soon which is fantastic cigar that goes for about $80 for a box.
