Nording Torpedo Cigar Review

by Jesse on April 7, 2007

Nording Cigar by Rocky PatelThe Nording was created by Rocky Patel for the famous Danish pipe maker Erik Nording. This Honduran made cigar has a Nicaraguan filler, Mexican binder and Costa Rican maduro wrapper. The Nording Torpedo is a small cigar packing a big punch (4×54).

This cigar has a beautiful oily maduro wrapper free of any major veins or imperfections. The draw was very easy, but not surprising considering how short this cigar was. The unlit draw of this cigar even had nice hint of flavor. It lit with ease and it burned evenly, I’ve noticed most of my burn problems end up being environmental issues so I try to keep my humidity at 65% in my humidors anymore.

Alright we’ve covered all the boring stuff now onto the flavor. I almost burned my lips on this cigar, and the doctors say I won’t need skin grafts for my fingers but they don’t suggest I “nub” a cigar that far down again. Yeah, it was that good. This cigar had a very rich tobacco flavor with a very thick texture and feel to the smoke. This rich flavor was complimented by hints of roasted nuts, coffee and caramel sweetness. It has a very similar flavor profile to The Edge by Rocky Patel (Sponsor) although not as harsh. I will be picking a box of these when I get the chance. Rating 9.5 out of 10.

Our cigar club had this cigar last fall right after it was released. This was the first cigar that did not get a majority of positive reviews.

The cigar had a young/bitter taste to it. It was dry in taste and it burned fast. The cigar shop that we hold our meetings at hasn’t even reordered the cigars. Not a good sign.

I’ve heard some other people comment on that. I wonder if I just got lucky? The cigar I had was very good. I’ll purchase some more when I get a chance to see if I notice a difference in a second one.

I’ve had several of these and have smoked them down to the nub and was sorry each time it was over.

Same here on the Nording. I didn’t know that it was developed for a pipe maker, but now that makes sense. I even commented to a buddy that I could see myself smoking this on a harbor or on a ship. It does have a bearded sailor/pipe-like feel to it. Bold and masculine. I do love those Nordings, and that big 60 is a pleasure to smoke.

wonderful cigar, bought a couple in Myrtle beach and smoked them only 2 weeks later in Montreal and the whole time they weren’t in a humidor and still smoked, burned and tasted amazing. Still have 2 in my humidor and I can’t wait to get my hands on some more.

I agree with the group. Ironmeden must have gotten a bad one somehow. A friend recommended I try one, and I’ve been buying them ever since.

I’m relatively new to the cigar world, but this has quickly become one of my favorites.

Betted get the white ones whilst you can. He’s reblending the smoke and the new ones with the silver band are a totally different smoke in a bad way :( It’s going from a costa rica maduro wrapper wiht a mexican binder to pretty much a straight nicaraguan puro with some dominican filler. Tastes very similar to a RP 1961. The draw was also way too tight. I tossed the new one at the half way point. Thanks for ruining a good smoke Patel…
