Link: Rocky Patel Sun Grown Robusto Cigar Review
By Jesse | April 10, 2007 |
Cigar Corner had a bad experience with a RP Sun Grown. Really a shame because these are typically well made flavorful cigars.
Just as I thought the cigar was getting better, it took a turn for the worse. The cap and wrapper started to peel and kept catching my lip and eventually ripped. This is only the begining. The draw happend to get worse, than better, than worse again.

Surprised me a bit too, I’m guessing he just got a bad one. The few I’ve had have been fantastic.

I’m a little surprised by this review. Back in August, we gave the torpedo a whopping 4 1/2 out of 5 stogies. In short, my colleague said this “is one of those far-too-rare cigars that is full flavored but not at all overwhelming.”
You can check out that full review here: Stogie Guys Rocky Patel Sun Grown Review.

what a cigar! Quite possibly one of the best sun grown cigars on the market. The rocky patel sun grown boasts in your face flavors without going over the top. Apon lighting, you are greated with a mouthfull of spice, slowly developing into complex flavors of sweetness and earthy notes. The smoke was cool and the burn was even. There will allways be room in my humidor for this cigar.

Am smoking a rocky patel sun grown while writing this. I give this a 4 out of 5. As usual with all of the rocky patels that I have tried it has an even burn line and I have not had to re-light it or touch it up since I lit it up. I am now half way through and the tastes of spice and earthiness have stayed consistent throughout. The smoke is cool as noted by the prior comment posted above. Nothing overwhelming such as any harshness or tastes of tar. The only reason that I cannot give this a five is because it lacks complexity or depth. I like to be left guessing on the tastes throughout a cigar and like to detect any changes in flavors. I am now a little more than 1/2 way done and while I am enjoying it still, it feels like I am getting bored with it and want to light up a more complex cigar. Still, for the price, not bad at all.
