Padron 1964 takes the Battle!

by Jesse on May 22, 2007

The Padron Anniversary Maduro 1964 dominated the Battle of the Cigars. I’m doubt this surprises anyone that has smoked this wonderful cigar. I’ve got three sitting my humidor that will be burned in tribute to this stunning victory. I enjoyed doing this and plan to do something similar down the road.

Thanks for putting this together!

As soon as the massive cloud of burning Georgia clears up a bit here in Atlanta, I plan to work my way through the brackets again… It’s a great must-smoke list! :)

Yeah this was quite a bit of fun! I hope to expand it or make it more interactive next year.

I challenge the 1964 to the Olde World Series by Rock Patel. For those of you unfamilar, this cigar is hard to find and very easy to please.

Don’t get me wrong the 1926 and 1964 Padrons are outstanding, but the Olde Worl Rocky Patel will give these smokes a run for it’s money.

MonkeyDan – I love the RP OWR and most of what RP puts out. I think the OWR was developed to go up against the Padron Anni lines and they received mixed reviews on when they first came out. They felt rushed and inconsistent from stick to stick.

The reason they are still hard to find is not because people are buying them up, but because retailers aren’t carrying them because of the luke warm response they received. I still find them and buy them and I think they are great cigars that keep getting better and better whenever I pick one up.

Sadly, with so many new cigars being released, first impressions mean so much and I think RP dropped the ball a bit with his initial release making the OWR an after thought.

Wow…..I must admit that while I am a big Rocky Patel fan I am not a big fan of the Olde World Maduro.
I am curious what the the readers might say about Rocky Patel’s “Edge” vs. Camacho Corojo toro. Both are great corojo cigars in my mind but different.

I actually had a favorable impression of the OWR’s I smoked. I’ll have to give them another try over the next month.

There has been so much chatter about the 1926 and 1964 Padron Series that it made me want to go back to the basics. So, I picked up a box of Padron 3000. This is Padron’s classic line of Nicaraguan Puros. They are well constructed, even draw, oily wrapper and a great taste. Simple and to the point. It measures 5.5 x 52 and runs for abut $100 for a box of 25. What more could you ask for?
Go back to Padron’s roots and pick yourself up a box. You will feel better about yourself

I’m a fan of the Padron 6000′s myself.

Hi Guys,
I have just started investigating the Padron line with 10 of the Padron 2000 series. One thing I find very confusing is that I can’t find a true explanation anywhere about the differences between the various thoudsands series. Outside of size and shape no web site I’ve visited can explain this. Can you shed some light on this for me please?

I think they are pretty much all the same blend but I’m not sure. Padron Cigar Website

Regardless of what my wife says, size does matter. Therefore, Padron numbers each size cigar differently.

If the cigar says Padron on the band, honestly don’t worry about trying it. Padron has a very long tradition of making great cigars, and they really do release a consistently good product.
