The Honeyboy Edwards made by Avalon Cigars is named after Blues musician David Honeyboy Edwards. According to Avalon Cigars this cigar under goes a 12 week pecan aging process before being shipped. Combine that with the Cameroon wrapper and some medium-full bodied filler and you have an interesting cigar.
The cigar is beautifully made and has a nice eye catching band. The cigar was firm and had a great draw that had a hint of pecan to it. They say the wrapper is a light Cameroon according to the website but this cigar I thought was on the darker side of natural. I had the opportunity to smoke the 5×50 and the 7×38. I thought the 7×38 was a bit rougher looking, but still well made.
The cigar burned well with a nice white ash that held on well without any flaking. I really preferred the flavor profile of the robusto which seemed a bit more complex and the flavors bolder. I could definitly taste the woodiness from the pecan aging along with the spiciness of the Cameroon wrapper. A mild buzz did sneak up on me while smoking, but nothing uncomfortable.
The Honeyboy Edwards Robusto is a fantastic cigar and a nice twist on the typical Cameroon cigar. I was sent this cigar directly by Avalon Cigars so unfortunately I don’t have any pricing information or know of any vendors that carry it yet. They’ve got some eye catching bands on top of a solid cigar so they’d do well in a good cigar shop. Rating 8 out of 10.
Sorry for the bad photograph, I’d smoked the last one before checking my camera.
