Cuba Aliados Anniversary 1924 Cigar Review

By Jesse | July 16, 2007

Cuba Aliados Anniversary 1924 CigarsFrank Santos at Puros Indios Cigars asked if I’d be interested in reviewing some of their cigars. I’m a fan of Puros Indios so I jumped at the chance. I was a bit surprised at what showed up in my mail box. Four beautiful Cuba Aliados Anniversary Cigars in both the natural and the maduro wrapper. Below is the press release announcing these cigars:

Miami, Florida —- July 12, 2007 - Puros Indios Cigars is proud to announce the new Cuba Aliados Anniversary cigar. The Anniversary, aged six years, is a limited production cigar offered in four all new, attractive sizes: Power (6½ x 56), Diadema No. 3 (5 x 58), Magico (6 x 48), and Short (4 x 48) The Diadema and Short are unique sizes which have always come to represent Cuban Master Blender Rolando Reyes Sr. and his 60 years of experience in the tobacco industry. The first two formats are packaged ten cigars per box and the last two, twenty cigars per box. Suggested retail prices range from $8.00 for the Short, $11.00 for the Magico, $12.00 for the Diadema $13.00 for the Power. Total production of both varieties is estimated to fall between 200,000 and 300,000 cigars, depending on yield

The Anniversary, which will be offered to select tobacconists, is a unique blend created by Reyes Sr. to honor and celebrate the over one hundred year tradition of the brand name. Aliados, meaning allied, originated in Cuba in the Nineteenth Century. The new blend will also celebrate the 83rd birthday of Don Rolando. Grandson and Vice President Carlos Diez says, This unique blend is a culmination of my Grandfather’s many years of hard work, inspiration and cigar blending experience. Anniversary is a tribute to Rolando Reyes Sr. and adds to his prestige in the worldwide cigar community. Marketing Director Frank Santos adds, Don Rolando is still going strong after all these years. This blend is a testament to his lifelong passion for tobacco.

The exclusive Anniversary is a proprietary blend and is available in two wrappers: Nicaragua Corojo and Ecuador Sumatra. All tobacco in the Anniversary cigar blend is aged for at least six years.

Rolando Reyes Sr. has been called the world’s most talented cigar maker. Well into his seventh decade of cigar making, he continues to use the magic of his gifted hands to create the world’s most unique sizes and blends. For more information and the latest news, visit www.purosindioscigars.com

The Short and the Magico that I had were maduros and the Short really impressed me. The cigars had a nice slow even burn with a good amount of smoke. The maduro was more earthy with a heavy coffee flavor and finishing with a hint of dark chocolate that was more noticeable in the Magico. There was also a hint of pepper but not overpowering.

Cuba Aliados Anniversary 1924 Cigar BoxThe naturals were the Diademas and the Power with the Diademas being a definite work of art. The Naturals were not as earthy as the maduro, but still had that same pepper spice. I also noticed a more complex faint sweetness to it that I can only describe as a mix of toasted marshmallow, licorice, and clove picked up mostly in the aroma of the smoke.

Both the maduro and natural are fantastic cigars Pick these up while you can. Rating 8.5 out of 10.
