How did you find my site?

By Jesse | July 23, 2007 |

I’ve had a couple busy days so I have not had the opportunity to write up a review like I planned, but I wanted to ask everyone that checks this site a couple questions.

Comments do not require registration so please drop a line and let me know!

If you're new here, you may want to check out the Cigar Review Index or subscribe to get updates through RSS or Email. Thanks for visiting!

I was specifically googling for cigar blogs. I don’t believe this blog came up high in the search results, so with a little optiimization you could probably pick up quite a few more readers.

I use a news aggregator for Linux called Akregator to keep up with this blog via its RSS feed.

I’m mostly interested in cigar reviews, and anecdotal blogs about cigar-related stories.

I found it through google (cincinnati + cigar)

I try to check my reader everyday (my home page)

I would like to try to find a plug in for Wordpress that allows guest to review cigars and have the overall score in the post of your review. I have found one plug in that should work but it will take some custom work to get it up to par. I believe it comes set up for book reviews but I have not looked at it lately. If you have the time to play with it it would be a cool addition.

I think stogie review has a star rating system. I’ll have to check on that and ask them what they use.

When I first started I was low for cigar blog and blogs but I’m on top or near the top for both. It just takes a few months of content and some social engineer for links to climb the search engine ladder.

I found your website through a bar website. This is my first time! I smoke cigars on occasion, the last time i smoked one… well, three, was when i won a bar chef competition for Hilton Hotels. That was definately an occasion! I like your site.

We (stogiereview.com) use wordpress for our blog. Seems to work ok. You can customize it and add features, I just have not had time to explore.

I check the site usually daily or every other day. I did a general search for cigar sites at least a year ago and found your site.

What plugin did you use for the star votes?

    hReview is one, http://www.aes.id.au/?page_id=28

    star rating is another. http://www.channel-ai.com/blog/plugins/star-rating/

But I think DG Review would be a cool set up. If I ever get time to play with it I would like to add it to my site.

Hmm… I don’t recall how I found your site… I would expect it was the result of a search for review on a specific cigar…

I pretty much check in daily. Your blog is one of 26 cigar blogs I have aggregated in Google reader.

What would I most love to see on your blog? A link to mine! LOL! Anyways, the star rating sounds like a good idea. I also dig the little pop-up link preview that some WordPress blogs have. Overall, I think your blog is improved a great deal recently.

I’ve added the link. :) Personally I find the pop up links to be kind of annoying because they always seem to get in the way when I’m trying to read the site.

    Ads? You get ads?

Poor fellow. Upgrade your browser! Get Firefox 2.0 with the AdBlockPlus plugin. Pop-ups and pop-unders go away. Flash ads are gone. Web sites look so much nicer, so much less obnoxious, and you don’t have to sift through the ads to find the real content.

    Thanks!

Yeah, there’s one implementation of those pop-up links that really bug me, the double underline one I’ve seen on some news sites. (But then, that’s basically advertising, not a preview.) The WordPress one has recently been “enhanced” to include a banner ad, which does make it a bit annoying. No biggie, either way.

Have you considered a cigar review index? You can, of course, click the “Cigar Review” link above, but that gives you a chronological list of reviews. If you’re looking for a specific cigar, it can take a while to find it. Take mine for example.

No I don’t get ads and yes I use Firefox. As an webmaster I despise AdBlockPlus :). I try to maintain a balance between making money and unobtrusive. The Chitika Ads are about as obtrusive as I plan to get. The pop ups I’m talking about are the ones that some people install on WordPress as a Plugin where it shows a snapshot of the link before you click on it.

Honestly, I would rather not have to run ABP. Too many of the sites that I *do* like have gotten obnoxious with the ads so I enabled it a couple of months back. The more some of these webmasters do to get around ABP, the more obnoxious the ads get and thus the more determined I am to block them.

When it was as simple as one banner ad and some unobtrusive Google ads down the side, I didn’t care so much. I try to keep it from being obnoxious on my own blog but I do fiddle with it from time to time (not that it really makes me any $$$ to speak of)
