Gurkha Cigars originally released the Black Dragon in late 2006 and they carried a hefty price tag.
Late in 2006, Beach Cigar Group stunned the cigar world by introducing the most exclusive cigar in production, Black Dragon. With exquisite, 15-year aged tobaccos, presented in a 100-cigar chest that sets new standards for packaging, it was available to only 5 epicures worldwide. In its 75-year old antique camel bone chest, painstakingly hand carved and distressed by East Indian artisans, it commanded a price tag of $115,000 for 100 cigars.
Who would expect to sell cigars for $1,100 each? Well, at press time, CEO Kaizad Hansotia advises, “So far, we’ve sold 3 of the 5 boxes, but I can’t say who bought them, other than to say they went into the Middle East.”
Well most of us would not be able to afford these cigars, the good news is later this summer Gurkha will be releasing the Black Dragon for mere mortals. Ranging in price from $10-$13 a stick and produced in three sizes.
Like the elite verison, the new line is hand made of long-filler tobacco, in the Toraño family’s Danli, Honduras, factory. Its wrapper is a five-year aged dark Cameroon, the binder is Dominican, and the filler is Nicaraguan and Peruvian leaf.
Aged Cameroon and produced by Toraño? You have my attention.

This one is quite a butt kicker. I reviewed this on my site and I still get the sweats when thinking about this cigar.
So this is up there with the LFD DL Chisels in strength. I think I’d let them sit a year or two in the humidor then before trying them.
The tobacconist at my local shop gifted me one of these 8 inch monsters last night. I can’t wait to get a chance to try one and review it.
