New Review Template

by Jesse on August 8, 2007

I’m playing with redoing how I write reviews. Please let me know what you think.

Casa Torano Robusto

Brand: Carlos ToranoCarlos Torano Casa Torano Robusto Cigar
Line: Casa Torano
Origin: Danli, Honduras
Vitola: Robusto (4 3/4″ X 52)
Wrapper:
Ecuadorian Connecticut-seed
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Honduras, Nicaragua and a family blend of Central & South American Tobaccos
Body: Mild-Medium
Strength: Mild

Description: The Casa Torano was originally the “House Blend” that was made for the Torano family to smoke and available at special events. In 2004 it was released to the public at the RTDA Trade Show.

Once it warms up it is very complex with a solid nutty foundation and a leathery aftertaste. It does have some sweeter undertones that balance the flavor profile nicely. I really like this cigar in the morning with a cup of coffee as it isn’t overpowering. My only problem is that it does get a touch bitter if you rush it. Also a couple I had tend to start tasting like paper when the burn starts until they warm up.

Verdict: Keep this cigar around for when you want something on the mild side, but still has a good body. This is one of my favorite cigars to pick up at any time of the day.

Similar Cigars: Drew Estates Chateau Real has a similar flavor profile but has a bit more strength. Another good smoke in the Mild to Medium Body range made by Carlos Torano is the Reseva Selecta Connecticut Shade.

I like the new format – esp. the “Verdict” and “Similar Cigars” part – most helpful.

Looks good! I’m very much in favor of reviews with clear sections. It makes it easier to scan to exactly what you’re interested in reading about, if you’re in a hurry.

I’m with Ryan on the “Similar Cigars” sections, that’s a great idea. Of course, you gotta have the “Verdict” and I’m a fan of having the cigar stats right up front.

It makes it easy to scan and compare with other reviews, if necessary. plus, the bullet-point format will be easier to remember than the same details in paragraph format.

Thanks for the feedback. I’ve added a couple things to the finished version if you take a look at the latest review you can see them. I added a Price and a link to purchase them. I’m debating about going back through some of my old reviews and reformatting them like this over time.

Do you think the new format prevents you from telling the story behind the cigar? It’s more readible and easier to digest. Your reviews are always spot on.

I’ve written about six reviews so far with the new template. (Some are not published yet) I’m really liking it so far.

Matt: I just posted my first review and I don’t think it prevents the story behind the cigar really. The description section can easily allow for it if so desired. :) I really like the new format as well, mostly for the reasons Ryan and Brian already pointed out.

I noticed a couple of votes saying they do not like the new layout for the reviews. I’d be interested in hearing you opinions on why.
