A Man’s Dying Wish

By Jesse | August 17, 2007

My mother-in-law is a hospice nurse and a couple weeks ago she approached me about a patient of hers. This man doesn’t have long to live and hasn’t had a cigar in over 50 years and had mentioned his desire to have one. I was more than happy to see that this guy had some cigars to enjoy at the end of his life and provided her with a couple to take to him.

I’ve been asked if I’d like to give this guy a couple cigars a week until he is no longer able to enjoy them and I eagerly agreed. The first two cigars I have him were a La Tradicion Cubana Petit Torpedo and an Oliva Serie G Cameroon. What I want to know is what cigars would you provide for man that hasn’t been smoking in more than 50 years and does not have a long time left on this earth?

If you’d like to help buy this guy some cigars use the Buy Me a Beer link.

I’d recommend hooking him up with the Gran Habanos Corojo #5 and the CAO Gold Maduro. I’d say the Oliva Serie V, but if he hasn’t been smoking, it might be a bit much for him.

Man you really love those Gran Habanos, unfortunately I don’t have any and don’t know of any shops close by that carry them.

Yeah, they’re my crack right now! :)

Tell ya what, I send a couple to you. I’m picking up a box from Blue Havana II at the herf this weekend. I don’t know if I have your address or not, email me and we’ll give him a chance to try ‘em out.

The next two cigars I’m sending are a Aroma De Cuba and a H. Upmann Vintage Cameroon.

Definitely an ISOM if it is possible under any circumstances.

Something smaller, Petit Corona or the likes.

My opinion? Romeo y Julieta Coronitas en Cedro.

Mild enough so he can finish it but a very flavorful cigar.

My thoughts are with him and thank you for giving him this opportunity. You are very considerate.

Someone I know is heading up to the Great White North so I made some requests. We’ll see what she comes back with. :)

The H. Upmann Vintage Cameroon is one of my favorite cigars–very flavorful and smooth. If he likes that, you might try the Don Pepin Garcia Black Label.

I haven’t had a chance to try the Pepin Black Labels yet. They are one of the cigars on my must try list.

I would easily part with a couple of Edmundos for the man. I am certain that would jog his smoking memory into remembering what a fine Havana tastes like.

    Very nice furious.

Jesse, shoot me a PM at CL (nick: siepattu) if you need any help, I have some Coronitas en Cedros etc.
