Description: If you’ve ever smoked a Torano Reserva Selecta, you know that it is Torano’s ‘flagship’ cigar, with a mild to medium body with notes of sweet cream, cedar, and finishes off nicely with a touch of herbal. Now, take all that goodness and infuse into it, the gold medal-winning, limited edition, Decadéncia Chocolate Port made by The Wilson Creek Winery in California. The result is the makings of a beautiful and, well, decadent cigar. While I would love to go into the details of the creation of this cigar, it is sadly a bit too long for me to include in this post. However, if you’re interested, you can read more about it at Cigar Weekly.
Upon opening the crystal tube, the smell that rolled forth was intoxicating. The construction was fantastic with very fine veins. It was firm with a bit give under pressure. I unfortunately can’t tell you what the pre-light draw was like because I was too eager to light this up. My first few puffs had me hooked. In the beginning, it was all about the port. The infusion was excellent and even though I’m not a fan of ports or wines, I don’t think I could have put this down if my house were on fire. The tantalizing aroma of chocolate port, stayed with the cigar the entire way through.
For the first 1/3 I sat back with my eyes shut and tried to identify the much more subtle flavors this one involved. I caught the hint of chocolate, a bit of the sweet cream, and just a touch of leather. As the first 1/3 ended, that leather taste began to build as the port faded ever so gently to the back. This was almost welcome as it balanced out the sweetness of the first part. In the second 1/3, the leather and chocolate began competing a bit for my attention, which I was happy about as it kept me interested. Yet always at the back, that port flavor continued on. As I puffed my way into the final 1/3, all the flavors seemed to mellow out to a nice even tone. Nothing seemed to stand out too much more than the others as that slight herbal entered into the mix. I did notice that there was a bit of spice in that final bit, enough to receive a request from my mouth for a few sips of water.
I was surprised in the end when I realized that I had only had to tap off the ash twice through this entire cigar. It also seemed like a slow burn as it took me roughly 1 1/2- 2 hours to smoke and I savored every minute of it. Overall I will have to say that this cigar was the perfect end to my hectic day.
Verdict: I have found a new favorite! This one is well worth trying at least once, no matter what you smoke. While I would suggest this as an evening cigar, I have to take into account that I’m not as hard core as some of you out there. The only thing I do recommend, is that you smoke it when you have the time to truly sit back and experience all this cigar has to offer. However, I’m afraid you’ll have to wait for Fall of ‘07 as these are not yet on the shelves. *wink*
Similar Cigars: Off the top of my head, nothing comes to either my mind, or Jesse’s. We’ll keep you updated though, should we think of anything. In the mean time, as always, feel free to post your speculations.

Jack, Im going to have to agree with you 100% on this cigar. Being that I work for Corona Cigar Company on the weekends (to get my cigar fix) I had the opportunity to enjoy this great smoke. It is by far very smooth and extremley complex with its chocolate and dry leathery taste. Very Very good. Hats off to you Mr. Torano!
