Description: Arganese ads, if you’ve seen them, I find to be amusing. They remind me of the old cigarette ads you used to see that made Kools look, well, ‘cool’. Unfortunately though, two beautiful women do not come shipped with the cigars. As I opened the Double Wrap Chairmans I was excited yet skeptical. I’ve smoked a few multi-wrapper cigars in the past couple months that I found underwhelming, but more on those at another time.

The Double Wrap is a beautiful oily looking smoke, firm feeling with perfect draw. I toasted the foot with my trusty and often abused torch lighter noting a woody and slightly grassy flavor to the first few draws. At this point, I heard a few voices and looked around, but nope, the voices I heard were just my neighbor’s kids and friends playing in the pool, and not the attractive women that accompany the cigar in the advertisements. Oh well, a man can dream. The smoke was smooth, cool and earthy, the grassy flavor disappearing but the woody flavor hanging on along with a some black pepper. The woody flavor reminded of the aroma you’d get from a barrel used to age whiskey or wine, not the flavor you’d get from gnawing on a pine tree air freshener.

Once you get past the 1/2 way point on the cigar the woodiness dissipated a bit and the earthiness took on a bit of a coffee tone. Sweet notes came on at times giving lingering hits of pepper and cream. This reminded me of some steaks in a peppercorn cream sauce I made a few days ago. The burn was nice and the cigar barely let off any smoke unless I was puffing on it. The sweeter notes of the cigar were augmented in the aroma as well. The ash did flake a bit on the end, but for the most part the dark gray ash held on tight.

By the time I got to the last inch of the cigar I reluctantly put it down. The Double Wrap does have some strength to it and by this point I was feeling a bit light headed. Even when smoked down that low the cigar never turned bitter or picked up any harshness. Despite the cigar having two wrappers, it did not have any burn issues besides some minor touch up and typically burned very cool.

Verdict: I was surprised that I could pick up flavors from both the wrappers. I was able to discern the differences mostly because over the past few days I’ve smoked both the Maduro and the Connecticut from Arganese. The two wrappers aren’t just a gimmick in this cigar and the Maduro doesn’t over power the milder Connecticut either. The cigar does have some strength to it so this is a nice cigar to light up after a large meal. The Double Wrap Chairman pleases not only in looks, but also in flavor. It’s a great cigar for a special event or everyday smoke. If I wanted a cigar to hand out for a special event this unique smoke would be one of my choices.

Similar Cigars: As far as dual wrapper cigars go the new CAO America is probably going to be the most widely available, but the Arganese Double Wrap is by far the superior smoke.

Don’t forget about the Arganese giveaway I’m running.

Thanks to  Arganese Cigars for sending me these cigars to try.

I gave this cigar to a friend of mine who doesn’t smoke many cigars and he really enjoyed it.
