Description: Palmas Puro cigars are made in the Dominican Republic at Real Tabacalera Sanchez-Romay S. A. This is the factory which also makes La Tradicion Cubana, JML 1902, and Sabor Cubano. Upon removal from it’s cedar sleeve, I noted that the Palmas Puro had a nice, smooth wrapper with no obviously large veins. I could not find any fault with the construction of it, and I got a nice, easy draw from just a punch to open it up .

The Palmas Puro has an aromatic cedar smell to the smoke. I picked up a hint of cedar in the flavor also, but overall the cigar has a profile of roasted nuts and leather. Creamy and smooth, this cigar is very easy to smoke. The flavor intensified as it progressed but never became overpowering. A hint of sweetness I could not identify picked up at the halfway point along with a faint hint of pepper. I smoked this cigar down to less than an inch, but besides getting a bit hot the cigar never became unpleasant.

Verdict: I really enjoy this cigar and for the price you can’t beat it. I think the Palmas Puro Natural would pair well with a Scotch or wine without overpowering it. This one in particular I used as a morning smoke with a cup of coffee, and it was great. The nice thing about these cigars is that they won’t overpower you with their strength, and the mild, complex flavor should appeal to almost anyone. I would put this as one of my first choices for a mild cigar.

Similar Cigars: The flavor profile is similar to the Casa Torano or the Chateau Real. The Palmas Puro is definitely my favorite and a good buy for cigars with an Ecuadorian Connecticut-Seed Wrapper. I’d also suggest trying the La Tradicion Cubana.
