This doesn’t seem like such a big deal until you dig into this and find it out bans smoking in public parks also.
Smoking would be banned at City Hall, the Burton Senior Activity Center and in city-owned vehicles and local libraries. In addition, the ordinance would affect visitors to city-owned parks, including Kelly Lake.
Resident Robert Gazso isn’t a smoker, but questioned making city parks smoke-free.
“My brother enjoys a cigar,” Gazso said. “I think to allow smoking in park areas (which are) open would not hurt the spirit of the ordinance.”
But Burton resident and City Attorney Richard Austin countered that for those with medical conditions, breathing secondhand smoke ruins the fun.
“My wife has mild asthma. If Mr. Gazso’s brother lights up a cigar, we have to leave Kelly Lake Park right now,” Austin said.
Alright so his wife’s “mild asthma” must be severe, because apparently someone smoking in a 40-acre park requires them to leave immediately. I’ll let you form your own opinions of Mr. Austin.

Funny how it’s only tobacco smoke that causes people problems and never smoke from BBQ grills, campfires or fireworks displays.
Has this officially passed or is it still in the discussion phase?
Sounds like it is just in the works. I need to change my headline.
