Description: I’ve heard off and on comments about these cigars every once in awhile on the cigar boards I frequent. However, the 5 Vegas is still a bit of an enigma to me. While their website has some decent information about their cigars, there were no details about the company itself. I checked out a couple of the larger cigar sites and found that they do carry these smokes, and that they seem to sell for pretty reasonable price. When I finally asked about them on the Cigar Live forums, and what people thought of them, Jon was nice enough to send me a few to try. The first one I tried was the beautiful Series ‘A’.
The Series ‘A’ Apex is a box pressed toro with a finely veined and slightly toothy wrapper. The maduro wrapper reminds me of espresso, and had a slightly sweet yet spicy aroma. The cigar itself is extremely well constructed, having a nice draw and a heavy firmness that was comfortable to hold.
Once lit up, the cigar produced a heavy white smoke with a touch of cedar in the aroma. I picked up on some earthy notes in the cigar itself, but espresso dominated in the first inch or two. As the Series ‘A’ warmed up more it got a bit creamier, reminding me of a cappuccino with a hint of sweet spice. After that point the cigar consistently held onto these flavors, maybe picking up some bite in the last third at it wound down. The burn was really nice and I found that I didn’t have to touch this cigar up once. A note about the ash though, as it so happens, it does come off easily. I found out this the hard way through dropping it in my lap twice, accidentally, of course. Thankfully I was smoking outside.
Verdict: A good smoke and being under $4/stick this cigar is a great deal. I found it to be extremely satisfying after a rather hectic Sunday.
Similar Cigars: It is a bit similar to the Rocky Patel Vintage 1992, but definitely not as complex.

I’m a fan of the 5 Vegas Gold and Red lines myself. The “A” are also very good after they’ve been aged for about six months in a humidor.
I think most 5 Vegas cigars are sold by Cigars International.com
The 5 Vegas (pronounced cinco vegas) brand was founded in Cuba in 1890. It was resurrected by cigar-man Kiki Berger in Esteli, Nicaragua, and is now maufactured by La Aurora. (Kiki Berger still sells his 5 Vegas blend as Don Kiki Red Label cigars).

I’m going to try more of the 5 Vegas lines down the road, they are some really good cigars for the money. CI is definitely the biggest retailer of these cigars. I think only one or two others sell them currently.

I got to smoke the smaller Artisan, and thought it was quite agreeable. I tagged a link to your review at the end of mine.
