Oliva Cigar Website Review
By Jesse | October 26, 2007 |
This is our second installment of the weekly cigar website review. This week I’m taking on the maker of some of my favorite cigars, Oliva Cigars.
Cigar Information: A-
Oliva does a good job of posting the details on their cigars, but I found a few things that were inaccurate. The most obvious one I saw was that the Serie G Maduro description is the same as the Serie G Cameroon, even though the cigars have different wrappers. I also can’t help but notice that the Flor de Olivas are missing from the site. I know these are their cheaper bundled cigars, but they are still good cigars and we’d like the details on them. On the plus side of this site, Oliva gets bonus points for not only having the sizes of their cigars listed, but photos of each one as well. Very nice, Oliva.
Company Information: B
The site offers up a short history of the company along with an easy to use contact form. Though they don’t have an address or contact number listed, I have in the past used their online form and they were very responsive. Another bonus in this section for having linked information in the press regarding the company and their cigars.
Website Features and Usability: A
Pleasant looking, quick loading, and easy to find information is all included in this site. They have some basics on lighting, smoking and storing cigars, along with a way to locate local retailers that carry their products. The Events Calendar is up to date with only a few out of date entries. I’m happy to find a good looking website that isn’t dominated by flash and contains useful information.
Recommendations:
I’d like to see some of the descriptions on their cigars updated, i.e. Serie G Maduro, and also, even though the Flor de Olivas are the cheap bundles and not your flagship product, some information on those cigars would be a nice addition. On the event calender, being able to narrow down events by zip code or state would make searches much easier as the list they have is rather long. Finally, a phone number and address on the contact page would make things much more convenient for those who need information quick.

The Oliva Serie V is one of the best to come out this year. My other favorite right now is the new Oscuro from 601 is also really good.
