Description: Another addition announced at the 2007 RTDA/IPCPR Trade Show by Torano was the addition of a maduro blend to the Casa Torano line. The Maduro is a slightly different blend, but still intended to be a mild to medium bodied cigar. I’ve been sampling this cigar off and on since the show and since I’m smoking the last one tonight, it is time to review!
The cigar has a dark oily Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper that has some larger veins, a typical trait of this leaf. The cigar is firm, and had a nice draw to it. I tried to distinguish some flavors prior to lighting it and picked up a faint woodiness to it. Once lit, that woodiness really came out along with some strong earth tones. An inch or so into the cigar, it started leaning to more of a coffee dominant tone and a faint bitter chocolate masked the woody notes. Thismaduro may look intimidating, but doesn’t have any real bite, staying mellow, smooth and easy to smoke all the way through. Near the last third I think still was getting those coffee, wood and cocoa flavors with maybe subtle hints of pepper kicking up in the end.
Verdict: I enjoyed the cigar, but it did not hit the spot like the original Casa Torano. I found it very similar to the Partagas Black, though the Black has more pepper, but the Casa has some subtler nuances and changes I don’t think the Black has. A friend told me that the Lancero vitola of this is superior so I’m looking forward to a chance to try it and review it also.
Similar Cigars: Obviously the Partagas Black, and also I’d recommend trying the EO 601 Oscuro which is a full bodied strength maduro.
Don’t forget about November’s Contest.

I never smoked the Casa Torano maduro, but after reading the review I’ll definitely give it a go! Thanks!

Definitely worth a try, I’m eager to give the Lancero vitola a try.

I’m glad you didn’t have any of the same issues that I had with the cigar, Jesse. That gives me some hope.

Yeah I didn’t get those hints of Formula 409, but I didn’t find it a remarkable cigar and I probably won’t keep any around like I do the Ecuadorian Shade Casa.
