I'm still pretty new to smoking cigars, but i must say i have enjoyed the experience thus far. Every time i go into the cigar shop i try to get a different brand to get a feel for what i like.

Until a few nights ago, though. i never thought it was possible to get sick from smoking a cigar.

I purchased a CAO MX2 from my local cigar shop. I've smoked dark, full bodied cigars before (like the Alec Bradley MAXX series), so i didn't think this would be much different.

I was taking a golfcart ride with a friend when i smoked this cigar. It took me about 45 minutes to smoke. The cigar gave me a really heavy buzz, and i began to feel nauseous, but i didnt really worry about it, since i didnt think i could get sick from a cigar buzz. However, as the ride continued i began to feel worse and worse. It got to the point where i broke out into a cold sweat and eventually vomited.

Needless to say i felt pretty embarrassed after this was over, as i had never heard of anyone vomiting from a cigar (unless he/she inhaled smoke). But i guess its not as uncommon as i thought. I should probably take my time smoking one of these if i decide to purchase another one. Riding around on a golf cart probably didnt help much either.

BTW, i thought the cigar itself was above average. It is definitely a great value for the money, but it kinda seemed to lack flavor. Every review i've read on the MX2 is great though. To each his own i suppose.

Good practical advice on protecting them with the cello. Same reason I keep the band on, practicality. 'Up to the individual' and 'there is rarely a “proper” way to do it' is great counsel regarding not only cigars. People close to me know me by the quote 'each individual is their own highest authority'. But heck, this is your cigar blog, not my philosophy blog.

Enjoying a 601 red right now, perfect. I wonder if the foot will light my fireworks...

The age old question that has never been solved lol..

I agree with both Jesse and Adam, I have always believed it is up the the individual. I might take them off if I have a box but other than that I keep them on so it help protect them.

Jesse, I agree. Like so many other things with cigars (and life in general), there is rarely a "proper" way to do it. Just because one way may be more common doesn't mean that it's necessarily more or less correct than a less common way of doing the same thing.

Yeah this is something I feel it totally up to the the individual smoker. I leave mine in the cellophane typically because I do quite a bit of trading and carting them around so I want the extra protection.

@11:11 - Personally, I would recommend leaving the cello on the cigar until a few weeks before you're going to be smoking it. It will help protect the wrapper from accidentally getting torn as you take cigars out and put others into the humidor. It'll also do a little bit to help prevent the cigar from "absorbing" too much of the flavour and smell of other cigars in the humidor.

Many thanks Jesse. Though I still like the bare appearance, maybe I won't be so anal about stripping 3 boxes worth as soon as I get them home. I looked up cellophane at Wikipedia and it said it is somethimes made from hemp fiber! Maybe I'll keep it on longer, or smoke it with the wrapper. Nah. Thanks again.

You don't have to worry it is cellophane not plastic. Cellophane is actually made from plant material. :)

I'm a newbie here (and to cigars) and want to mention I put 'window deflectors' (from weathertech) on my car and can smoke away in a heavy down pour with the window down about 3 inches. Like most things for me, when I get into something, I really get into it. I have tried over 100 different premium cigars in the last 4 months and have about 10 pages of my own notes on all of them. Nothing has made me green so far, even the Camocho Tripple Maduro, but strongest of the bunch has been the 601 'Green'. Man!

Can I weigh in on 2 apparently oft asked cigar questions form my fresh nebie perspective? Ring label on/off? Plastic wrapper on/off?

Label on! I know the old reason for taking the label off (pretensious), but when playing golf or tossing the ball with the kids or working in the yard, I tend to drop the cigar in the grass. The label makes it easier to find. Also, when smoking with a friend using 1 ashtray, less likely to mistakenly grab the wrong cigar!

Plastic - are you kidding? That stuff is toxic. Don't let it mix with your cigars. Plus, nothing like looking in a well stocked humidor at those bare babbies.

Please excuse the lenght.
