Perdomo Website Review
By Jesse | December 7, 2007 |
Since I reviewed the Lot 23 yesterday, I decided I’d stick with Perdomo today and review their website.
Cigar Information: B
Perdomo has all their cigars listed with a decent description of the blends. The problem I have is they don’t break down the tobacco in each cigar telling us the binder, filler and wrapper.
Company Information: A+
I really can’t ask for anything else, this is exactly what every company should be doing. Easy to find contact information, that is even broken down so you can contact certain departments directly. They have a great company history detailing the past and present of the company very well along with a vision of the future. They have a huge archive of press releases and an extensive photo gallery. I can’t find anything to complain about here.
Website Features and Usability: A
I like the layout of the site, very easy to navigate, but it does have some quirks with my screen resolution. I like the Find a Tobacconist feature, but I wish they also had a way to locate online retailers. They have a newsletter that is easy to sign up for, but I’ll have to wait an see how often they send it out. I’m fairly impressed with the forums, while they may not be the most active forums, employees of Perdomo are actively involved on them. I think this adds a nice level approachability to the company for the consumer.
Recommendations:
Just a few minor things I’d like to see changed. In the cigar section they have the cigars listed in one column, I hate scrolling, two or even three columns would work better. I’d also like to see a better breakdown of the tobacco in the cigars themselves. The site looks a bit strange in higher resolutions, centering it would make it easier to read. Overall Perdomo’s site is a great source of information, and they’ve made it a valuable resource for their customers.

I really like this feature you’ve been running. It’s a great idea. I have a different take on the online retailer thing you mentioned in features and usability. I am sort of a champion of the local tobacconist. I am all about supporting the local guy and letting the internet giants fend for themselves. They already have enough built in advantages over the B&M shops, I feel the cigar mfgs should do a little more to promote those shops that carry their cigars and not hurt them B&Ms further buy using their website to drive traffic to the internet vendors. Most online shoppers know who the big internet guys are and know where to find their smokes. Local B&M’s provide more than just cigars. in most cases you are also getting a place to smoke and a community of cigar lovers to interact with. So I say it’s a good move on Perdomos site not to promote the internet vendors and I bet their B&M accounts appreciate it as well.
I think I just came up with the idea for my next article on my blog. :)

It’s always a good way to start a consulting business…speaking of which, we should talk.

[...] It’s an excellent idea and I have enjoyed reading the articles. His recent post about the Perdomo website indirectly sparked a bit of inspiration for this post to help fill the void until I can smoke [...]
