Crown7 Smoking Device
By Jesse | December 17, 2007
I stumbled across this thing on Gizmodo of all places and it definitely interested me. It is basically an electronic cigar that delivers the nicotene with none of the smoke. Crown7 was nice enough to send me the cigar starter kit to try out.
The packaging is nice, it comes in a box with three nicotene cartridges, a battery charger and the device itself. It seems to be well constructed and has some easy to follow directions on how and when to replace the cartridges, when to replace the batteries and how to reset the device if you need to do that. I’m not sure if the cartridges are different flavors, but I did notice some of them were different colors.
I used the Crown7 over a few weeks and the flavor reminds me of a pipe or a Black & Mild. Obviously, it doesn’t compare to a good cigar, but I did find it handy to have on hand. I’ve been cramming some late hours in at work and this little device kept me sane. I used it at my desk at work, while I did get some odd looks, no one complained about it. The cartridges do last quite awhile and so far the only real complaint about the device is it sometimes makes a low whistling noise when you inhale.
While it won’t replace a good cigar, the Crown7 is a cool little gadget for a smoker. I’m tempted to walk into a bar puffing on it just to see what kind of looks I get.

Whoa, weird!

My friends and I are having a little get together this Saturday. I may have to see how the bar we had to reacts to me using this thing. Oddly enough this is the first time I’ll be stepping foot in a bar in Ohio since the smoking ban was enacted. I typically only go to bars to have a place to smoke cigars so I’m forced to head across the river.

Jesse,
I have to say, that is one weird device thats probably going to make someone millions on day.
So would you say this is designed to simply be a nicotine delivery system? So if one were “addicted” to cigars they could puff away on this thing while they are on the job (or in any other place they can’t otherwise light up at will)?
Does it deliver the same type of nicotine rush that some cigars do, such as causing light headedness or nausea?
I’m trying to see where this could be useful but for the life of me I can’t see how this would ever replace a cigar in my eyes. Now if this were a mechanical cigarette I could see where it would get alot more use from tobacco users.

They actually make a pipe and cigarette version also. I never got a buzz off it like I do a strong cigar. I see this as more of a cigarette replacement than a cigar replacement. If you can’t go all day without a nicotine fix I’d consider taking a look at this, especially in a colder climate where you have to stand outside to smoke.

This really seems like little more than a nicotine delivery system. Seems like something for cigarette smokers (i.e.: nicotine addicts) than cigar smokers. I suspect the cigarette-style ones will start to sell well as more and more places enact smoking bans.
There’s a pipe one too! Interesting. I prefer to stick to my real cigars and pipe, even if it means I can’t smoke indoors.

Give me a good cigar any day! One day that I really enjoyed was a long car trip with the kids in the car where I didn’t want to smoke. At least going through the motions of smoking a cigar helped take that edge off that steering wheel gripping stress that children can cause on long road trips.

Fair enough. I don’t get cravings very often, so I don’t think is really something I’d use. But, then again, it might be nice to have during the winter months, were I don’t often have an opportunity for a proper cigar (can’t smoke in my apartment building, unfortunately).

Not a fan of this product. This tool was merely designed to deliver nicotine into the blood. This is not what a cigar is designed to do. Rather, a cigar is an experience above and beyond mere flavors and aromas. However, products like this continue to cloud legislation’s (and society’s) idea of a cigar, further lumping it into the Big Tobacco picture. By no means should this product be promoted on even mentioned on a cigar site. Just my two cents.

@Steve: Thanks for the comment. Definitely not a replacement for a good cigar. I even said that in my review of it. As far as not mentioning it on a cigar site, people were curious about it so I posted my thoughts on it. I think the big mergers going on have more to do with the cigar industry being lumped with big tobacco than a little device like this does.

What the hell are you talking about?
I’m sorry, I have no idea what “device” this article is alleged to review.
i read it has batteries and cartridges - what like a Walkman? There appears to be smoke in the picture - does this device burn something?
“It is basically an electronic cigar” What?
Is that like an electronic tomato sandwich?
A cigar is tobacco rolled into a tube shape for smoking. How can that be electronic?
A “nicotine delivery device”? Like the ‘Patch’
Don’t take this personally please, but I find the above review to lack any meaning or substance. To me it is utterly uninformative and essentially useless. I read it and I have no idea what the subject is, how it is used, how it works, what it does.
Give us a clue, eh?

Why not just stick an unlit cigar in your mouth if you want a cigar in a non-smoking area?

Product did not work. Company would not refund or get me a new one. CROWN 7 BLOWS
