Our Top 5 Cigars of 2007

by Jesse on December 31, 2007

I asked each of the contributing reviewers what their top 5 cigars of the year were, after reading through these lists I’d safely say that 2007 was the year of Don Pepin Garcia. It was hard for me to come up with only five. Heck i could have listed everyone of the EO 601′s and I doubt anyone would have disagreed with me.

As I mentioned in another post, I only started smokeing 4-5 months ago, coinciding with quitting cigarettes. I dove into it big and have smoked over 100 ‘models’ from 35 brands and was just about to call myself a 601 man. Now, given your top 5 and the apparent similarities in taste (Oliva Serie V is im my top 5 and AF Don Carlos in top 10) I’m dying to get to the San Cristobol! Just checked my B&Ms website and they are in stock. I’ve tried many Ashtons but they always came up a bit bland (even VSG and aged maduros). But to see you describe it, it will go in my Humidor by this weekend. I never would have know it had Pepin’s hand in it, but that makes it more appealing my given my affinity for 601s.

My new favorite: The Don Pepin JJ. I’ll be reviewing this baby soon…

Daniel has popped his Don Pepin Cherry! I haven’t had the JJ yet myself, but if it lives up the standards of any of his other blends I know I won’t be disappointed.

I agree with most of the list, I think that the San Christobal and the Oliva Series V are fantastic cigars. I also just tried the Series JJ Maduro and thought that was a wonderful cigar, but I tried it on 1/1/08 so I’m not sure if I can count it in the top 5 of 2007 :)

Good lists everyone…I did my own in depth review of 2007 cigars on the blog: http://www.velvetcigar.net
The only guy I question is MonkeyDan….cmon dude, the Padron 1926 is so rare and so damn expensive that it’s way too easy to name that a cigar of the year. Why not name the God of Fire #2 while you are at it? And then the Padron 1964? Get my drift? I just prefer the cigar of the year talks to be centered on attainable, somewhat affordable models. But great lists otherwise everyone!

Let me name my Cuban top 3 selection:
1. H. Upmann Magnum 46
2. Ramon Allones Specially Selected
3. Bolivar Royal Coronas
These 3 smokes were really amazing, much better than all the other cigars that I had a chance to smoke in 2007.
