Nat Sherman Host Selection Cigar Review

January 31, 2008

Man, it’s been a while since I’ve smoked a Nat Sherman Host. These take me back five years, to the summer after my freshman year of college. I used to stop by here perhaps once a week to pick up a couple of stogies for the week. It’s amazing what can happen in five years, no? (I’ll be reviewing each of the company’s three main lines over the next several weeks. Thanks to Mike Holba from Nat’s for sending them out to me.)

Savinelli Nicaragua Reserve Cigar Review

January 30, 2008

I was gifted a couple of these a while back, finally had the chance to smoke one! Good looking box-pressed cigar – dense and hefty, with a dark brown wrapper. A few heavy veins protruding, but looked to be a solid construction.

CAO Black VR Moby Cigar Review

January 29, 2008

The CAO Black VR is a good-looking cigar. Everything from the band, to the cigar’s oily sheen, all the way down to the extra Jackson Pollock-esque band at the opposite end of the cigar. (Then again, I don’t think I’ve ever seen an ugly CAO.)

Latest Libation Purchase

January 28, 2008

I’m not a huge beer drinker so I’ve been exploring the world of spirits and found that I have a liking for good rum. I’d been told by many people that I must by this rum next time I have the cash. Well since I finally had some extra cash I went ahead and picked up a bottle of Zaya Gran Reserva 12 Year Old Estate Rum.

Tatuaje Havana VI Verocu No. 1 Cigar Review

January 28, 2008

The Verocu No. 1 is “Exclusivo Lado Occidential” (Exclusive to the Western Side), a limited regional release exclusive to the West Coat. By sheer luck I stumbled across one at a reasonable price, and then I was hit with a little more luck and was told by I could have it free. Granted, I was buying over $100 in other cigars.

This week’s edition of cigar links covers the Arturo Fuente Don Carlos Series. The cigar is named after its legendary creator Don Carlos Fuente Sr. and is considered the “Pride of the Fuente Family”. Troya Clasico XVIII Cigar Review

January 24, 2008

I wasn’t sure where I got this cigar until I dug through my notes. That’s one of fun things about running this site, going into my humidor I’m always finding something I didn’t know I had or where it came from. Anyways this cigar was sent to me by Jon over at TinderBox, and is another Don Pepin blended cigar. Yeah, I know we mention his cigars quite a bit here, but the man has his hands in everything now days.

Camacho SLR Torpedo Cigar Review

January 23, 2008

I got this cigar as part of a word of mouth promotion they are trying over at Social Cigar, Camacho’s new online cigar community. The cigar was very nice looking, and actually very dark for a natural wrapper. If hadn’t seen the nearly black SLR Maduro you could have told me this was the Maduro and I would have believed you. The wrapper had a little tooth on it and one bigger vein in it, but overall very well constructed. I checked the prelight draw and found it acceptable picking up some hints of leather and wood.
