Description: The Romeo y Julieta Habana Reserve was released at the 2007 RTDA Trade Show. The cigar is absolutely gorgeous, I love the band and the oily wrapper. Construction is superb, a nice firmness with slightly resistant draw. Typically I try and stay away from the big name brands, but I couldn’t resist these and picked up two at The Party Source’s Cigar Tasting last night. Information is kinda sparse on this cigar yet, I gleaned some information from Gary’s Review on Cigar Advisor.

Romeo y Julieta Habana Reserve CigarThe cigar starts out very smooth with some heavy earthy and dark bitter chocolate characteristics, definitely a fuller bodied smoke than your typical RyJ . It didn’t take much time for a nice sweet spiciness to kick in. I had some tough time picking out flavors but I’m guessing some cinnamon, a touch of pepper and maybe a slight citrus note to it. The burn was great, and never needed a touch up, I lit up two of these nearly back to back tonight and burned my fingers on both of them before I was finished.

Verdict: Definitely my favorite of the Altadis USA Romeo y Julieta’s. The price is very reasonable and I see myself purchasing a box soon.

Similar Cigars: The Habana Reserve is milder, but it has some of the same characteristics of the Oliva Serie O Sun Grown.

I will always have a soft spot in my heart for the RyJ line. Can’t wait to try this one.

I’m going to explore the RyJ lines a bit more. This cigar was fantastic, once I get some more cash I’m going to buy a box.

I enjoy the Cuban RyJ lines, but haven’t really tried the Hondurans. Enough time has passed that, despite sharing the same name, I’m sure the lines are very distinct. I should really delve into the Honduran lines, if they’re as good as this particular review indicates.

Most of the Altadis USA RyJ’s are made in the Dominican. This one from what I understand is rolled in Honduras, but is mostly Nicaraguan. How’s that for confusing? :)

I was wondering about that, actually. In my experience, most of the brands that are originally of Cuban origin seem to have setup shop in the Dominican or Nicaragua, rather than Honduras. Confusing, indeed!
