Camacho SLR Torpedo Cigar

Description: I got this cigar as part of a word of mouth promotion they are trying over at Social Cigar, Camacho’s new online cigar community. The cigar was very nice looking, and actually very dark for a natural wrapper. If hadn’t seen the nearly black SLR Maduro you could have told me this was the Maduro and I would have believed you. The wrapper had a little tooth on it and one bigger vein in it, but overall very well constructed. I checked the prelight draw and found it acceptable picking up some hints of leather and wood.

On the first few puffs I’d say overall the cigar was mostly a smoky wood and nutty flavor reminding of walnuts and hickory. After a couple of inches into the cigar, nearing the midway point, I picked up more strong black coffee or bitter chocolate flavor. I’d heard some descriptions saying the cigar had some creamy notes to it, but I was never able to pick that up.

About this time I took notice of the burn, or the fact that I didn’t have to take any notice of the burn. It was flawless, not to mention the fact that the ash held on extremely well. I love it when I don’t have to concern myself with keeping a cigar lit.

Verdict: Coming in at just over $6 a stick these are a good smoke. Not a super complex cigar, but some really nice flavors to it. Many Camacho cigars can lean towards the strong side, but this one didn’t phase me.

Similar Cigars: CAO Criollo or Rocky Patel Vintage 1992.

I have yet to smoke any Camacho cigars, I just haven’t picked any up yet. Would this be a good Camacho to start with, or is there a different cigar that would epitomize Camacho’s qualities?

I’d say the SLR and the Havana would be good ones to start with. Some of the other Camachos tend to be strong, but I do enjoy the Diploma and Triple Maduro.
