CAO Black Cigar Review

January 22, 2008

Now one of the top brands in the industry, Nashville-based CAO really started on what would become its road to fame in the mid-90s, when the company released the Black. After smoking this, you’ll be able to see why the company became a hit.

As you can see, it’s a good-looking cigar. When packed, it’s wrapped in a thin slice of cedar wood, but after peeling back the cedar, I noticed the wrapper was especially smooth.

Cigar Links Edition 2: Camacho Diploma

January 19, 2008

This week’s edition of Cigar Links focuses on the Camacho Corojo Diploma. I reviewed the Camacho Diploma Natural back in August 2007. The tobacco in the Diploma is from the “Fifth Priming”. These are the top most leaves taken from the plant last so they get more sun and nutrients. Resulting in a stronger and [...]

Fuente Don Carlos Double Robusto Cigar Review

January 18, 2008

Although not exactly cheap; The Don Carlos line represents a very fine cigar without the hefty price tag that the Opus line carries. Not nearly as strong as the Opus, but very well constructed with a wonderful flavor profile.

Before snipping and lighting, I noticed that the Cameroon wrapper was beautiful, velvety smooth, and was slightly sweet to the nose.

La Tradicion Cubana Figurado Series Cigar Reviews

January 17, 2008

Joe from Fullers Pullers asked me if I was interested in trying a new line of cigars from La Tradcion Cubana. The new line is a series of figurados the first two releases are the Reeds and Chulos. The Reed is a chisel tip cigar named for the resemblance to the windwood instrument. The Chulos, tranlated as “cool” here as in some cool looking perfectos with either a maduro wrapper and natural tips or a natural wrapper with maduro tips. The Figurado Series differs from the normal La Tradicion Cubana cigars only in shape and the wrapper on the maduros, other wise this is the same blend.

Camacho Triple Maduro Torpedo Cigar Review

January 15, 2008

I’ve had this cigar sitting in my humidor for a month or two, a gift from Doc Stogiefresh. The cigar is beautiful, and a fantastic work of art. I love the dark maduro contrasting the silver bands. The wrapper is a bit rough looking, but has some crystals on the wrapper. This is one of those cigars that I sat inspecting for a few minutes before lighting it.

January 14, 2008

I’m considering starting up a Cigar Podcast, but I don’t want to be like the other guys who all run great podcasts. Here is kind of what I’m looking. A short weekly/bi-weekly podcast of 20 to 30 minutes. Cigar Education: Focus on one aspect of a cigar and explain a little about it. Example: What [...]

Graycliff Espresso Black Label PG Cigar Review

January 14, 2008

The Graycliff Espresso is billed as a full bodied cigar that packs a punch. The wrapper was little rougher looking with with a large vein running through it. Overall though the construction was great, a nice even draw and though slightly soft it wasn’t unacceptable and probably rolled that way intentionally. I was reminded of rich dark chocolate from looking at the wrapper.
