Camacho Cigars Website Review

by Jesse on February 1, 2008

Camacho has been very excited about their new website and have been asking me what I thought and how it stacked up against other manufacturers. So to keep Dylan off my case I thought I’d go ahead and check out their site this week.

Higher Quality Version

Cigar Information: A

The Good:

  • All their cigars are listed.
  • A photo of each line.
  • Breakdown the blends and strength.
  • Product Descriptions

The Bad:

  • They don’t list the Ring Gauge and Inches of the different vitolas.
  • Only one picture of each line.
  • All the information is in Flash, which means no resizing or copying the text.

Overall they provide great information on the cigars. They also have added 3D Model of the box, while I’m not sure if this adds value, it is kinda cool. A few bells and whistles are great if you’ve covered the basics first, which they did.

Company Information: A+

The Good:

  • Good History
  • Easy to find contact information.
  • Great Press Room

The Bad:

  • Nothing obvious

This section they nailed it. The information on the company and the history of tobacco in Honduras is great. The best item they have is the Press Room, which is actually a WordPress Blog. I also like the fact that they don’t just publish links to the big magazines, but also link to cigar bloggers and sites discussing their cigars.

Website Features and Usability: A+

The Good:

  • An Active Blog
  • Retailer Locater based on Google Maps
  • Social Network
  • VIP Club
  • Promotional Gear you can actually buy.
  • Easy to Navigate

The Bad:

  • Moderate use of Flash

Alright the moderate use of Flash isn’t bad, but it does cause some users problems. Not only do they have some great features, but they are also actively using them. The Press Room which is actively updated, they are also active in their social network, SocialCigar.com. I’m also glad to see I can actually buy their gear, some sites show this stuff off, but don’t give you a way to buy it. The entire site is actually built on WordPress, which makes the site very easy to update. I’m very curious to see how this works out for them as they release new cigars.

Overall Camacho has a great website and it is a huge improvement over the old one. They’ve added some great features and are actively using them. Also they are very active in the online cigar community and responding to us. Well done Camacho!

Excellent review and love that video showing browser activity! And the website itself is really functional and well thought out. Glad to see the them getting much more involved with the community as well.

I have become a fan of their Camacho Corojo. And those 7/11 just blow my mind … literally!

Three cheers for Camacho!

I give Camacho an A for their site design, and you an A+ for this review. The text/video 1-2 punch is simply excellent! (Now I’m feeling guilty again about not doing video cigar reviews…)

Somebody was whining about the lack of text so I had to fix that.

Great review and great web site. Good job Jesse, now I need to go out an try some Camacho cigars. The Liberty sure looks interesting, I just might have to try one of those someday.

I think the term is “flashturbation,” Jesse.
