La Gloria Cubana Reserva Figurado Regalias Perfectos Maduro

Description: The Reserva Figurado Series of La Gloria Cubana are a limited edition with only a certain amount released each year. These cigars are aged in special cedar bins for six months and another three months in their boxes prior to shipping. The cigar is hefty cigar for its size and is a bit rougher looking, but that’s common for a Connecticut Broadleaf Wrapper. Overall I’m impressed with the construction, a good weight and easy draw.

Once I lit up and took those first few puffs I could taste the results of that special cedar aging process they use. The cigar starts out a mix of woody and a sweeter dark chocolate flavor. This continued through the first third of the cigar along with a flawless burn.

Near the halfway point I’d say the cigar still hung on to the woody flavor, but lost a touch of that sweetness, reminding more of a coffee flavor at this point and a touch leathery. I also noticed a subtle spiciness starting to show along with some leathery notes.

The final third took it up a notch on the spice, I started to pick up some stronger black pepper and the woodiness defined itself more with some obvious cedar characteristics. Overall the cigar still had a really nice earthy flavor to it that made me think of a dark rich freshly tilled dirt. Now for you novices out there this might sound a bit disgusting, but come spring step outside, grab a handful of dirt out of a freshly tilled garden or field and take a whiff. That aroma is what the flavor calls to mind. If you think that smells like crap then you probably just picked up a handful of “organic” fertilizer, put it down and go wash your hands.

The cigar finished off as well as it started. The finish wasn’t bitter and the burn was consistent. I set it down once I didn’t have room left to hold it.

Verdict: The Regalias Perfectos Maduro has great earthy and woody flavors along with just enough spice to keep it interesting. It is definitely fuller flavored but not nearly as bold as the Serie R. I could easily see myself picking up a few more and most likely a box.

Similar Cigars: The Partagas Black Label is similar, but less complex.

A special thanks to Doc Stogie Fresh for sending me this cigar.
