What Cigar Magazines Do You Read?

By Jesse | February 7, 2008 |

I’m doing some research for a post. I’d like to know what cigar magazines you read.

I occasionally read Cigar Aficionado, but that’s about it. And, honestly, I don’t read it very often, because I don’t really care about most of the non-cigar-related articles that they run.

    Cigar Aficionado, what else.
Whether you love’em or hate’em, you gotta admit they set the standard.

Cigar Aficionado… that’s the only thing available on the racks here.

Subscribed to Cigar Aficionado and glad I did. There are some interesting articles, some good cigar picks and the $60,000 watch I want for my Birthday ;-)

I’ve been thinking about posting on this subject myself, so I’m looking forward to seeing what you come up with. But to answer your question — I read everything I can get my hands on, but I think Cigar Magazine is probably the most informative mag out there, even if it is rather brazenly skewed toward Altadis/JR Cigars. The 10 percent of CA is that actually cigar related is also very good; there’s just not enough of it. I usually read it at the newstand and put it back. I don’t care about celebrities, cars, or golf. I like cigars! Smoke magazine is okay — their reviews are a little more down to earth, using real people with everyday palates. Some decent articles as well, and some hilarious typos. When I can find it, I really like European Cigar Cult Journal, but I’ve only seen one or two copies. I like what I’ve seen so far though. Good luck with the post!

Since I’ve done about 6 blind reviews for them, I subscribe to Smoke magazine.

    Smoke, browse CA, ECCJ.

I look at whatever magazines are on the counter at my local shop while I visit with my friends. Sometimes there are good stories in Cigar Aficionado and Smoke. Cigar Magazine doesn’t seem to show up too very often at the shop I go to. I read the cigar stories at Cigar Weekly and Cigarcyclopedia.com on line too, those are good too and I think they count as magazines in the online era.

I have read a few issues of CA,and was not at all impressed. I have yet to find a decent magazine. It seems that the ones I have read, are more into advertising rather than reviewing, rating, and just general cigar talk. I have found that the net, especially SC,is the best place to gather info.Myabe the guys over at SC would consider creating their own magazine for print. They have plenty of very knowledgable people there, with vast cigar industry experience.

In print, I read cA and Smoke. Have for, what, 10 years now?
Electronically, I like Cigar Weekly. Seems to have a new article every week, and often times are interviews with interesting “celebrities” in the cigar industry.

    Cigar Weekly

Hey Jesse, was your question limited to print magazines?

  14. CJ Says:

I read Cigar magazine and Cigar Weekly. They both have good content that is cigar and industry related. Occasionally I will read Smoke. I only look at cA if I happen to be sitting in a shop and they have it. I never buy it.

Yeah I’m specifically looking at print magazines here not online sites. I don’t want to start something ugly by comparing the different online sites. I enjoy reading many of them and contribute on many of their forums.

That certainly makes sense, Jesse. Just to avoid confusion, I was referring to the online sites that are primarily magazines in that they focus on cigar articles and news. I think those are very closely related to the print magazines and the line between the two is blurring, so to me it made sense to talk about that.

I was not referring to the many social cigar sites that are community or forum driven. There are dozens of those and each has its own character and value.

    Smoke,
    Cigar Magazine,
    CA

    Usually in that order to.

I wish Cigar Magazine would notify people when their subscription runs out.

    1. Cigar Magazine

    2. CA, but only because my wife sent me a subscription while I was in Iraq.

    3. And I love the online cigar magazine, Cigar Weekly!

I’ll check out CA, but I have a couple of Smokes sitting around as well.

I only read the cigar magazine that I subscribe to, ‘Cigar Magazine’. I used to subscribe to ‘Smoke’ magazine and think it is a great magazine with actual cigar and tobacco content.

I read CA, Cigar Magazine, Cigar Press, Smoke and my favorite, The Eurpean Cigar Cult Journal. It’s interesting to me that as much as smokers like to gripe about CA, it seems that most people buy it anyway (myself included). More surprising still is how much the other publications are relatively ignored.
