Cigar Links Edition 5: Oliva Serie V

by Jesse on February 9, 2008

The Oliva Serie V is one of the best cigars we saw come out in 2007. I remember the first time I tried these at a pre-release event. I stopped by The Party Source for the weekly tasting, found out it was moved down the road. Since I was already there I thought I might as well pick up a few cigars and grabbed the Oliva Serie V Figuardos and headed down to the Beer Sellar. Turns out the cigar being featured was the Oliva Serie V. Jose Oliva and Sam Leccia were on hand for the event.

It was a great night and I really enjoyed the cigars, I had chance to speak with Jose and of course mentioned my site, gotta keep selling myself of course. I was also told over and over by Sam that I have to check out Cigar Live, which hooked me up with some cool folks I got to meet while in Houston.

Later on I got a chance to try the Lancero vitola of the Serie V and was really impressed with it. It has some of the characteristics of the larger ring gauge Serie V's, but something about this size I really came to love.

Alright, you can tell that I'm a huge fan of the Oliva Serie V, but now let's take a look at what others thought of it.

  • Walt at Stogie Review also reviewed the cigar a couple times. He stared out with an unbanded pre-release and later on did a review of the Lancero.
  • Lucky7 at Keepers of the Flame tried the Torpedo and will keep buying them as long as the price remains reasonable. As a side note, because of the good prices and high ratings this cigar is damn hard to find right now.
  • Brian, who seems to write reviews everywhere, wrote a review of a couple different sizes over at Cigar Beat.
  • TopShelf also got a chance to meet Sam Leccia, found the cigar very enjoyable.
  • About even has a review of the Oliva Serie V, by Dr. Mitch Fadem.
  • Matt, was impressed with the flavor, but had some construction issues with his Double Robusto. He also thought the 94 Rating it got was a bit high.

That's all for this week, check back next weekend for another Cigar Links Edition.

Hmm, that’s what I was in the mood for, a Serie V. Oh well, this RP ’92 ain’t too shabby.

I love those Lanceros, really good smoke. I have to say the Figurado is a work of art though if you can find them.
