Cigar Links Edition 6: CAO America

By Jesse | February 16, 2008 |

The CAO America is probably one of the most talked about cigars this past year. The cigar was hyped as CAO’s fullest bodied cigar yet and featured a Connecticut Shade Wrapper and Connecticut Broadleaf Wrapper. The dual wrappers give this cigar its unique pin stripe appearance.

I first got a chance to try it while at the 2007 RTDA Trade Show in Houston. I wasn’t blown away by it at the show, but I couldn’t really taste anything at that point so I withheld judgment until I got back from the show and had chance to recover. I let the CAO America Potomac rest until about October before giving it another go.

If you haven’t seen it yet, check out the video for the launch of the CAO America.

I thought the CAO America was a good cigar, but didn’t think it was full bodied like CAO states on their website. Here are some reviews from other cigar bloggers and what they thought of the cigar.

Gary Manelski at About.com thought the cigar was good, but didn’t live up to the hype surrounding it.

CAO’s best cigar yet, at least Uncle Moneybag$ at Leafy Times thinks so.

Brian Hewitt reviewed the CAO America Potomac at Stogie Review and enjoyed it. He thinks you’ll really enjoy it if you like cigars that have a leathery profile.

Patrick and Patrick over at Stogie Guys review the Monument and gave a 4.5 Rating.

Daniel at Smoke n Spirits enjoyed the CAO America, but thought it left something to be desired.

Ricky at Cigar Command thought it was a good looking medium bodied cigar.

Everyone seems to think the CAO America was a pretty good cigar, but probably doesn’t live up to all the hype surrounding it. Check back next week for another edition of Cigar Links.

I too was not that impressed with the America. Cao has several other cigars in their lineup that are far better and fuller flavored than this. The America was well constructed, and looked great, but besides that the great draw was the only thing it had going for it in my opinion. I think CAO would do best to put their marketing dollars behind the staples in the lineup like the Brazillia,Itallia,Cameroon, nad Gold. Too much hype for such a lackluster cigar

I actually thought that it was a very good cigar. Was very peppery and full bodied when I smoked it. Personally speaking, it was my favorite CAO cigar yet.
