I had recently purchased a box of the Hoyo de Monterrey Excalibur Epicure based upon a friends recommendation. This cigar is a 5 1/4 x 50 and is made by the General Cigar Company. I prefer the darker wrappers, and this maduro wrapper is very well matured, not veiny, and has a nice oily sheen. At first light, you get a sweet taste of espresso coffee.
The cigar draws beautifully, and burns perfectly. The ash is milky white and very compact. The cigar is not very heavy on the deep flavors as you would expect the maduro’s to be. One third of the way through the cigar, the espresso flavor opens up to a chocolate essence. Still drawing and burning well. Towards the last third of the cigar, I did not find any additional flavors and burned it to a nub.
Outstanding. I paired this cigar with a glass of Glenmorangie 15 year.
On a scale of 1 to10, I would rate this cigar a solid 9.
Definitely well worth the money you pay for this one.

Hoyo de Monterrey Excalibur is an outstanding smoke. I have no idea why I don’t smoke more of them. I will never turn one down, it’s consistent and ohhh soo good.
I have to say its been a long time since I’ve smoked one myself. I’ll have to snag a few.
I’ve been hearing good things about this one. I think it was a CA Top 10 of ’07 smoke. And they’re very affordable.
This one of the very best.Someone was kind enough to give me one, excalibur Limited Edition. My guess is it was 52ring 7″ inches. Dark oily a superb smoke. I would like to know were to buy them.
Not enough O’s in Smoooooth to discribe this smoke, this is a good one to lit, sit back and enjoy life.
I tried my first Excalibur 1066 this evening paired with some fine Belgian bitersweet dark chocolate. The experience was nothing short of heavenly. The cigar has a smooth coffee taste throughout. Light to begin with, stronger near the end of the stick. I really didn’t want it to end. I plan on buying a box as soon as I finish writing this. The next pairing will be with a fine chocolate bock beer from a familiar American brewery. Can’t wait!!!
I like the Hoyo De Monterey Excalibur No. 2. I think it has a good balance of cedar, toasted nut-like tastes, and just a bit of spice that seems to weave in and out. Never bitter, oh so smooth. Great looking Connecticut wrapper with almost always excellent construction that provides just the right amount of resistance to burn well, but not too fast. The ash is about as pretty as something called “ash” can be…It’s white and of enough density if you pay attention you won’t end up wearing it instead of putting it in the ashtray where, as far as I’m concerned, is the only place it’s welcome. Overall a good example that a smooth and fairly mild cigar can have lots of flavor too. Recommended.
