Canimao Cigars Torpedo

I’d heard very little about Canimao Cigars prior to getting a phone call from Mel Gonzalez the President & CEO. While I waited for the cigars to show up I did some searching around and found a review of them over on Stogie Review. A few days later a nice package of six Canimao cigars was waiting for me when I got home.

I’ve had a chance to try the Churchill, Double Coronas and Torpedos and so far I think the Torpedo seems to suit this blend best, so that’s what I’ll be reviewing here.

The cigar is good looking; it is finely veined with a heavy fill to it and slightly oily sheen to the Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper. The construction is excellent; each one had a great draw. I picked up a faint woodiness and a touch of sweetness on the prelight draw.

These cigars all had a beautiful burn on them and a very solid gray ash. I missed the ashtray once and the ash was firm enough to pick up without falling apart. None of the five I tried really needed much attention as far as burn goes.

Flavor wise the cigar is very straight forward, starting off with a creamy smooth texture that with a leather note to it. About a third of the way in the cigar picked up some mild pepper notes and woody flavors. The pepper picked up gradually as the cigar progressed but never became overpowering.

Canimao Cigars Torpedo

Verdict: Overall I really enjoyed the cigar and it is about what I’d expect in this price range. If I had a shop locally that carried them I could see myself picking some up. A good cigar for those starting out or who enjoy milder cigars. You may also want to check out Tom and Ed’s Video review of this cigar on Stogie Review.
