Cuban Cohiba Pyramid 2006 EL Review

By Jesse | March 13, 2008

Lance Besore got his hands on this Cuban Beauty and submitted it as an entry for our Anniversary Contest.

Prelight aroma of light tobacco, nice oily wrapper with a few small veins evident. Nice milk chocolate color.

1st 3rd: Very mellow and smooth with the typical Cohiba “grassy” flavor. The burn was slightly crooked at first but righted itself quickly, within the first inch. Very light, slightly creamy mouth feel with nice amount of smoke. Solid ash.

2nd 3rd: The cigar has become very creamy, like OMG vanilla shake-wise, while remaining extremely smooth and light to smoke. Very nice as the smoke is still quite heavy with a full mouth feel yet the flavor is still very mellow and refined. Also, I ashed it myself after it held for about 2″ to reveal a perfect conical burn.

Somewhere along the halfway point a very intense but pleasant pepper taste became apparent. A very nice and unexpected change while retaining the vanilla, grassy flavor to contrast the pepper which is tingling my tongue. Quite complex at this point. Detected a slight Cuban “twang” but not as pronounced as in a Juan Lopez for example.

The final 3rd is where the strength came in with 2 barrels blazing! I love a cigar that changes on you like this in surprising yet pleasing ways. Kind of like a nice, beautiful girl next door who becomes a hellcat behind closed doors It has become quiet strong while retaining the cream and spice although a bit tannic at this point. Overall a wonderful smoke and I’m certain it will be magnificent in 3-5 years.

I give these magnificent sticks a hearty thumbs up. My advice is to pick up a box or two while these are still readily available if you are able.

    I’m confused:

“extremely smooth and light to smoke. Very nice as the smoke is still quite heavy ”

Is it light? Is it heavy? Is it Memorex?
