Only Use a Proper Ashtray

By Jesse | March 16, 2008

Tom Martin from Social Cigar has won a 5-Pack of Camacho Cigars and a Camacho Hat by showing us all the need to use a real cigar ashtray.

Nothing gets the adrenalin flowing fast than coming home after running errands and smelling smoke.

Let me back up a bit. I work out of my home. I decide to go smoke my rothschild Casa Torano Maduro in the hot tub over lunch. Once complete, I put the cigar in a potting fixture hanging on the house figuring I don’t want the dogs to pick it up. I go out after lunch to deposit a check, get a bite to eat and pick up a Blackberry Pearl.

So, after my errands I return home. Upon exiting the car, I smell smoke while still outside the house. I get inside and smell is worse. I take a quick run through the house to see what the heck is going on. Nothing. I step out on the back porch and see the house with a big friggin burn hole and still smoldering.

HOLY CRAP!

DSCF0001 I run to the kitchen and grabbed a bit bowl, fill it with water and douse the new hole in the house.
I repeat the process since I see it is necessary.

Well, how am I going to explain this to Sandi?

Perhaps an electrical short? Struck by lightning? Spontaneous combustion? I guess I just better tell her the truth and accept the beating.

My official position from here on in is to only use approved ashtrays!

Hold on for a bit. I’m going to go check again to see that nothing is still smoldering. No smoldering!

Talking to Sandi later, she starts calling me Pyro. We laugh and are thankful it was not worse. I tell her the made up reasons. She said she probably would have bought the one about spontaneous combustion. So, remember that my peeps in case you almost burn down your house.

Or, instead of using only “approved ashtrays”, just don’t leave your cigar resting on/in something flammable.
