The Cigar Smoker’s Journey
By Jesse | March 23, 2008
This contest entry comes to us from Carl Riley. He’s one himself a Camacho Hat and 5-Pack of Camacho Cigars.
This article is for everyone, even though everyone is constantly learning, but mainly for beginning cigar smokers. When you are new to our world of cigar pleasure, you will find how relaxing it is, it actually lowers my anxiety, my blood pressure, and my view of the world (you get the picture).
You find a nice spot, quiet or not, commit to the time it takes to smoke a cigar of your choice. You begin the almost ritual lighting of the cigar, relax, clear your mind of all problems and enjoy the time spent smoking. You will begin to concentrate on the flavors as they evolve and change, the way the cigar burns, the smells and taste. Its like nothing else you’ve ever done, at least it was for me.
Finding your “favorite” brand or type is actually half the fun, I love the fact that now you can purchase samplers, of a brand or type, without buying a whole box. As you travel on this search you will find certain sizes or shapes, a wrapper or country of origin, even tobacco blends, that you will begin to lean toward but always keep a open mind. And remember when you read reviews on line, or in publications and catalogs (and I recommend you do) that what one man finds strong and dislikes, anther man thinks is just right. And you will find as you smoke longer, that you will prefer different strengths and types, during different times of the day and on different occasions. This is part of the fun matching cigars to the time you are smoking them. You can even try different beverages with your cigars and you will be surprised at the difference it makes.
My main advice to you is to enjoy the trip in finding the perfect smoke for yourself, and I believe that later you will look back and find out it was more fun and educating than you think. You will find that you have joined a long brotherhood (and sister hood) of very special people, instantly welcoming you in as part of a great group of individual s, willing to share their experiences, knowledge and opinions. You will also be entitled to your own opinions and thoughts and find they have value in the group as well. You will never be looked down on because you have not enjoyed this lifestyle as long as others. Remember we were all new at on time, and have found this to be a continual learning experience. Come on in sit down relax and light one up with us.
