The Party Source held their Nub Cigar Launch Event at The Beer Sellar on April 1st. I had only a few minutes to spend at the event to snap some quick photos and interview Sam Leccia. So the Nub had to wait before I could finally light one up.
Sam’s aim behind the Nub is to isolate the best part of each leaf and only use it in the cigars. While this makes for some rather short cigar the girth makes up for it. The 460 burns nearly as long as a Churchill.
Construction:
The Habano 460 is well constructed and has an absolutely beautiful wrapper. I think I’d prefer the 464 (Torpedo) though as I’m not a huge fan of such large ring gauges. The draw was great and my Palio cutter was barely large enough to clip the head.
Burn:
I didn’t have the dead even burn like Walt did on his Habano 464 Review, but I don’t have any complaints about it. I only had to touch the cigar up once during the entire 90 minutes it took to smoke it. That’s right this 4 inch little sucker burned for 90 minutes.
Flavor:
The Habano 460 reminded me of the Oliva Serie V. It was a smooth smoke that was thick enough to almost chew on. I had to take some time to really pinpoint the flavors, they seemed to meld into one rich tobacco taste. Predominately the cigar was oak and leather with just a touch of sweetness at times. Near the half way point I picked up just a touch of red pepper that stayed nicely in the background from that point on.
Verdict:
Pardon the play on the name, but I "Nubbed" it. Flavor and strength wise I find it has many similarities to the Olvia Serie V, but the flavors are a bit more subtle. The cigar probably would have burned longer, but I had a hard time putting it down. If you can find them, I’m commanding you to pick some up.

I’ve only had one, the 464 Habano, I found it to have a high quality tasty blend of tobaccos’ with an excellent blend of flavors, but…
It required effort and attention to keep it lit. It had a tendency to burn towards the center with the wrap going out.
Over all it was an interestingly flavored smoke, but is not one that will allow you to relax and smoke in a leisurely fashion.
I’ll smoke the second one, and maybe more if I come across them, but I won’t go looking for them.
i belong to a cigar of the month club . in my fantastic four pack , was a nub habano. i didn’t really enjoy this cigar. it was hard to light , the draw was tight.the cigar also tasted like, a peppery piece of burnt toast with hints of carmel . anyways if i saw it i would try it again but i wouldn’t go looking for one
