Altadis U.S.A Website Review

By Jesse | April 18, 2008

I decided I’d go ahead and work through some of the bigger manufacturer sites and see how they are doing things. Altadis U.S.A. is one of the juggernauts of the cigar world producing brands like Gispert, H. Upmann, Monte Cristo, and Romeo y Julieta. So how does their website stack up?

Altadis USA

Cigars: A-
It appears to me like they’ve got everything listed with some fantastic information. The only complaint I have is the lack of pictures. One of the first cigars I pulled up when looking at the site was the H. Upmann and I was a bit disappointed to not see any pictures of the actual cigar itself.

Company: B
The Company history is very detailed and I’ve got no complaints about the news section, but finding contact information was a bit tricky. I was able to locate it finally by clicking through some of the different sections, it needs to be a bit easier to find.

Features and Usability: A+
They have some pretty cool features on this site. The Cigar Builder allows you to select your favorite wrapper and shows you what cigars they have using it. The retailer locater is easy to use and seems to be up to date, but then again who doesn’t carry their cigars. I also liked the Connoisseurs section that has some history, facts and etiquette.

Recommendations:
I’d like to see a few more pictures of the different brands. The website appears to be a bit busy in sections, but the overall design is clean. I don’t like hunting for contact information either, so making it easier to find would be nice.

Overall the Altadis U.S.A. site is useful and a very effective and nothing real over the top like excessive use of Flash. I think some other manufacturers could take some ideas from them when redesigning their sites.
