Manufacturer Website Reviews Wrap Up

May 31, 2008

Well it has been fun, but I’m starting to kind of burn out on doing website reviews. I think by now if I haven’t driven my point home I never will. With this round up I thought I’d highlight a few of the things I’m looking for in a site.

Five Rums to Pair with Cigars

May 30, 2008

I’m not an expert when it comes to drinks, but I’ve learned what I like. The following rums are best plain or on the rocks. I’ll beat you senseless with my table lighter if you even consider mixing these rums.

I’ll typically pair rum with a fuller flavored cigar or something with some sweeter notes to it as they tend to compliment each other nicely.

Cigar Review: Alec Bradley Tempus

May 29, 2008

The Tempus is the new premium cigar from Alec Bradley Cigars. Alan Rubin discovered the wrapper in 2001 at a small farm in Honduras. Since 2001 they’ve been aging tobacco and perfecting the blend. Tempus is Latin for time and because of the time it took to perfect this blend they thought the name suited the cigar. I was excited to get my hands on these seeing that Cigar Insider gave it a 94 rating.

Baltimore Wants To Stop Sales of Single Cigars

May 29, 2008

Banning smoking isn’t enough for these folks now they are going after cigars. Granted this is aimed at the cheap stuff sold at gas stations. How long before a state bans the sale of tobacco completely? From the Cleveland Examiner: Violation of the proposal — which exempts tobacco shops and cigars that cost $2 or [...]

Cigar Review: Gispert Robusto

May 28, 2008

Gispert Robuto Cigar

I’m always on the look out for a good inexpensive cigar, but tend to shy away from milder cigars from the bigger companies. They always seem to be lacking in taste. I found the Gispert tucked away in a corner of the bottom shelf at my local shop and since I was in the mood to try something mild I picked up five. That was a couple months ago, and while I haven’t picked up a box yet I pick up a few more on each trip.

May 27, 2008

Graycliff is an interesting cigar company: The factory, run by Master Torcedore Avelino Lara, is part of the historic Graycliff Hotel in the Bahamas. And, as a result, it’s by far the best-tasting house brand in the biz, and one of my favorite brands overall.

It has been awhile since I stepped away from the site so I’m taking this weekend to relax a bit and catch on some reading and maybe plan out some posts I want to do for the next few weeks. I may post some links and stuff tomorrow or maybe not, all depends how I [...]

Worst Cigar Names Ever

May 23, 2008

Some of the cigar brands out there are tongue twisters when it comes to pronouncing them, but if you want your cigar to fail these names will surely help you in that endeavor. The names alone will make you shudder as you pass them on the shelves.

Cigar Review: Dunhill Nicaraguan Signed Range Robusto

May 22, 2008

Dunhill Nicaraguan Signed Range Robusto Cigar

This has to be one of the most difficult cigars to track down information on. Dunhill doesn’t have a website for the cigars nor does British American Tobacco have any details. Luckily CigarCyclopedia and a few other sites had some great details on this cigar.

Cigar Review: La Aurora Connoisseur Selection Brazil

May 21, 2008

La Aurora Connoisseur Selection Brazil

After reviewing La Aurora’s website I realized I hadn’t smoked many of their cigars lately. The Connoisseur Selection is a cigar enthusiasts dream. It consists of four cigars each with the same blend, but featuring different wrappers. You can try each wrapper and see how the wrapper changes the flavor profile. The Connoisseur Selection features the same blend as the 1495 series, but you have your choice between the Brazilian, Cameroon, Connecticut and Corojo wrappers. I enjoy most cigars with Brazilian tobacco so I thought I’d start there.
