I was gifted one of these by my uncle and I can’t thank him enough. He turned me on to a nice cigar. Though the look of cigar says full strength, the smooth flavors of this cigar make it seem almost mild. This beautiful cigar is blended by Estelo Padrón. The Ecuadoran sun grown wrappers are aged in dried palm leaves. What this does for the flavor, I have no idea, but it obviously works.

Construction: This expertly crafted cigar is very firm with few veins rising from the wrapper. I felt no soft spots along its 6 1/2 inch frame. It has a nice, easy draw warning me to keep it slow and easy. This seems to be about an hour and a half smoke. I learned that to rush it makes for an unpleasant experience.

Burn: This cigar had no major burn issues. The minor canoeing that I experienced on a couple of these always corrected itself. No need for touchups on this baby. It has a firm salt and pepper ash which fell off nicely of its own accord into the ashtray about halfway through the smoke. It gives off a very pleasant aroma with a nice amount of thick resting smoke. My wife even liked the smell and she hates everything.

Flavor: This cigar starts off with a strong coffee and dark chocolate flavor that never relents. A hint of wood and sweet cinnamon make a brief appearance about midway through, but fade away toward the end. Now I mentioned earlier about not taking it too fast. This cigar has such a smooth flavor it makes you want to smoke it faster than you should. I experienced this with the second stick I smoked and it produced a burnt wood/charcoal taste that wouldn’t go away. So, take it slow and enjoy.

Verdict: I really enjoyed this cigar. All of the sites I have seen these cigars on have them listed as full strength. These are not full strength. They are medium at best, yet very full flavored. These are definitely worth the price. I’ve had many higher priced cigars that don’t have this level of flavor. So, I do recommend this cigar and I will be keeping some in my humidor for future enjoyment.

Nice review Jason and welcome to CigarJack.net.

It has been a while since I have had one of these but remember really liking it. I go with the espresso size myself. I got Jr’s deal email today and they have a 4-pack sampler of of these for $7.75 this week.

Excellent review Jason and thanks for reminding me what a solid cigar the Hoyos are. I may have to grab one for lunch today.

Although I am a be fan of the Hoyo brand, I found the Dark Sumatra (I had two.) to leave me wanting more flavor. Maybe I smoked them too quickly. The contruction and appearance were flawless but I just found myself wanting more of the flavor that I have associated with the whole Hoyo line up.

I totally agree with your assessment of this great cigar! I was gifted with a 5 pack of these last Christmas and have been letting them age in the humidor and finally made my way to trying one about a month ago. Medium strength and full flavor is a perfect description! Chocolate, coffee, woodsy….bingo! You nailed it. It is a pretty ominous looking smoke with that ultra dark wrapper, but you would be sorry to pass it up. It is definitely one for the regular rotation. Love your website! Keep up the good work!
