Xikar Defiance Renegade Cigar

I'd heard a bit about these cigars, and glad for the chance to finally try it. Xikar teamed up with Jesus Fuego to produce this cigar as a way to combat increased anti-smoking legislation. Xikar donates 5% of the wholesale price to organizations that fight for our right to smoke in the state the box was sold.

Construction: Great looking smoke, with a light brown natural wrapper with an oily sheen to it. The Defiance is firm but I did notice a softer spot near the band. The final one I smoke also had a slight crack in the wrapper near the cap.

Burn: A nice slow burn, but not always pretty. It never required any touch up but it did get a bit ugly looking. The ash held on well and had a slightly brown tint to it.

Flavor: The cigar starts off with a mix of leather and wood as the base and a touch salty. By the second third the cigar settled into a predominate woodiness and some definite Corojo flavors coming through. Rounding out the final third was some great corojo flavors, nuttiness and the woody flavors taking a fainter note. I smoked this cigar down to a nub and it got too hot to hold before it got too harsh.

Verdict: Xikar and Jesus Fuego have a winner and what better way to fight for our right to smoke than by smoking a great cigar! It is worth picking up a box to help the cause, especially when it a cigar worth smoking. This cigar may not appeal to a novice smoker, especially if they haven't developed that taste for Corojo yet. I know when I first started smoking I found its flavors a bit over powering.

I'd like to thank Tex Cigars for sending me the samples of this cigar to review.

I really liked this cigar when I went to this trade show. Full body taste, but a bit on the strong side.
I got this humidor, (Link Removed) which will only contain my prize possessions including this one by Xikar
