La Aurora Connoisseur Selection Cameroon

I’ve done the Brazil and the Corojo so today I move on to the La Aurora Connoisseur Selection Cameroon. One of my favorite Cameroon wrappered cigars is made by La Aurora so I was eager to give this one a try. My one fear is that the Corojo would over power the Cameroon. So let’s get started…

La Aurora Connoisseur Selection Cameroon

Construction: This cigar is beautifully construction. Except for a water spot near the foot this was an almost flawless wrapper. The cigar is very firm with no give to it all. I chose to use my punch to open up this cigar and it opened up the draw perfectly.

Burn: One of the best burning cigars I’ve had in a while. It never went out, and never required a touch up. The ash was nearly white and held on well for the most part. While moving around a bit to get a picture I ended up knocking the ash off on myself once.

Flavor: Right from the get go I could tell my fears were right on. The first few puffs were a mix of leather, oak and that distinctive Corojo flavor. These flavors pretty much dominated the cigar with some spice gradually picking up as the cigar progressed. Occasionally in the first half of the smoke I’d get a faint touch of caramel, but it never lasted more than a puff or two. The cigar was enjoyable, but not what I want out of a Cameroon.

Verdict: This reminded me of the Corojo quite a bit, just less exciting. I think the filler and binder completely over power anything the wrapper might provide flavor wise.
