Well I’m not sure if this is more of a treat for me or you. I got my hands on the new cigar from EO Brands. 601 Cigars were featured at one of the weekly tastings put on by The Party Source. Eddie Ortega showed up for the event and handed me a couple of these. He warned me to let them rest a few days before trying them as they were fresh off the rolling table. It was a long wait, I’m not a very patient person. Well I finally gave and lit the first one up last week, and lit the final one up today.
Construction: The Cubao is what I expect construction wise from EO Brands. It is firm and a dark chocolate colored wrapper, there is one larger vein standing out and an oily sheen. A quick prelight draw, fantastic, just a slight resistance.
Burn: A great burn on this cigar, dead even the whole time. It never once required a relight even when neglected.
Flavor: This cigar was definitely complex. It had a definite mix of coffee and wood at the base, with an initial blast of pepper. After a minute or so the pepper faded out replaced with different spices. I was able to pick out some cinnamon, a touch of clove and some cayenne. Occasionally the spice would mellow out enough and I’d pick up oak at times and sometimes I’d pick up a dark chocolate. The smoke also had a nice creaminess to it, very heavy and lingered in the mouth. With two inches left the cigar started to develop some bad flavors and I picked up a little ammonia so had to set it down. Another week or so of rest probably would have improved the cigar.
Verdict: EO Brands has another great cigar on their hands if the production release is as good as the sample I got. Definitely be looking to buy a box or two when they hit the shelves.
Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.
Update: I just noticed that it appears that the music didn’t load when I encoded the video. If you are listening to just the audio you’ll get about 20 seconds of dead air at the start of the episode.
Eddie sent me a photo of the cigar with bands, since the samples I got were unbanded.

Great review keep up the video reviews. Funny about the sound I thought I went deaf for a few minutes. :)
Jesse-
Interesting how your wrapper is darker than the picture Eddie sent–Just the photo quality???
Probably just a difference and lighting and backgrounds.
