The Don Pepin Cuban Classic is manufactured at Tabacalera Cubana in Estelí, Nicaragua. Introduced to the general public in 2006, it is a fairly new blend. I picked up a Pepin sampler from Cigars International and this is one of my favorite blends to date. I am smoking the 1979 robusto. They are packaged in boxes of 20 cigars for about $124, making them a more affordable treat.
Construction:
This cigar has a medium brown, smooth wrapper with very small veins. There is a Very slight give to the cigar. It has a nice spicy pre-light aroma. The draw has little resistance. It seems to be a very well constructed cigar.
Burn:
The burn was uneven through two thirds of the cigar. I had to touch it up twice. The ash is salt and pepper and very firm. It has an average amount of resting smoke with a nice smell. It didn’t upset my wife at all. She actually didn’t complain about it. One point for Pepin. I really like the clouds of white smoke this cigar gives off with each puff.
Flavor:
The pre-light flavor is of spice and chocolate. Once lit, the spice kicks you in the face. Not a Chuck Norris roundhouse kick, just a nice spicy smack. Leather, wood, and pepper are also prevalent in this stick. The pepper really picks up about halfway through and doesn’t back down. But, I like the pepper, so I’m enjoying this stick. It does, however, get a little harsh with about an inch left, so I have to put it aside.
Verdict:
I liked this cigar a lot. I’m glad I have a couple more to let age. Hopefully that will kill the harshness I experienced at the end of the cigar. This is a full-bodied cigar, so use caution. Don’t try this on an empty stomach. Luckily, I was stuffed when I smoked it. If you like a full-bodied, spicy smoke, then I believe you will enjoy this cigar.

Any reference to Chuck Norris in a cigar review has my vote! LOL
Great review though. I really enjoy this cigar by DPG. I’ve only smoked…I think maybe 2 of these over time, but as far as I remember I enjoyed both equally.
Great site and keep the reviews comin’!
Thanks for the review Jason. I’d say this is my favorite DPG so far. Nic/Nic/Nic can’t go wrong!
Sorry about the missing origin. It is from Estali Nicaragua.
this is a good cigar but not harsh i would say more to medium body cause i like illusione, tatuaje, padron 1964,padron 1926 maduro, cabiguan, and my all time favorate padron 9126 40th and 80th anniversary so i love full bodyed smokes i would put this at a solid medium body smoke with a little black pepper and some nutts with a hint of earth and leather this is a good cigar though i have a box in my humidor ohh and don pepin is also one of my favorates
Spot on review. I’m a third of the way in on my first and it’s burning even. Perhaps the cool night breeze is assisting. So far my favorite of the CI sampler to end all samplers. Cheers!
Good review! One of my favorite smokes, but i like the figurado stylings myself. Billowing clouds of smoke but reserved when your not puffing on it. Goes good with dark beer
I just smoked my first Cuban Classic (and my first Pepin, because I am on a budget) and loved it. I got a perfect burn. I will certainly smoke more of these in the future!
