Give That Cigar Another Chance
By Jesse | August 7, 2008 |
I’ve been forcing myself to revisit some cigars I didn’t care for when I originally smoked them. This typically happens with milder cigars as their flavors are much more subtle.
The most recent cigar I’m glad I gave a second chance to is the Cuvee Blanc. When I first tried this cigar it was in the peak of pollen season here in Cincinnati and I didn’t realize how badly the weather was screwing with my sense of smell and taste. I’d found the cigar bland and flavorless. Last week I lit one up for my morning drive into work and fell in love with it.
So for me a cigar went from a pass it on if I ever get one to buy a box when I have room for more cigars. Have you had a similar experience with a cigar?

I have had that happen quite a few times. I find that I enjoy cigars differently depending on what I am doing at the time I smoke them.
I have had some cigars that I will smoke while driving that I hate, but when I force myself to try another while relaxing at home I enjoyed it immensely.

There are several. One the mild side, 5 Vegas Gold. One the stronger side, Joya de Nicaragua Antano. Both of those are examples that really stick out because of how much I didn’t like them at first. One was too mild and the other too strong. I tried both again within the past year. I can pick out the good points of those cigars now. Maybe my tastes have developed more since then.

The closest I can come to this is disliking a cigar that is ‘right off the truck’ then finding it to be great a few months later. Last one that did that to me was a Gurkha Master Select #4.
