I reviewed the original Jameson Red Label awhile back. While it was an enjoyable smoke, it was something I really had to be in the mood to smoke. Brad from Jameson Cigars and Luis Sanchez from La Tradicion Cubana reblended the Red Label and launched the Black Label at the IPCPR Trade Show. I’ll be hitting the newly reblended Red Label in the next couple of weeks. Right not I’m taking a look at the Brazilian wrappered Black Label.
Construction: Good looking nearly black Brazilian wrapper. Definitely reminds me of the CAO Brazilia as far as looks go. Firm cigar with a nice heft for its size. Draw has that slight resistance I like. A spice and earthy flavor on the prelight draw check.
Burn: I forgot to snag pictures of the actual burn on this cigar so you’ll just have to trust me here. The contrast between the ash and wrapper is very attractive. Almost black wrapper and a nearly white ash, that holds on very well. No lap drops this time. Had to relight a couple times because I was busy with some work related stuff and it would go out from neglect.
Flavors: The background flavor is really interesting. I think it came across as a blend of wood, earth and coffee. Very heavy and lingering flavors that leave you feeling satisfied as you exhale. Once the cigar warns up it really has a fantastic spiciness. I was thinking black pepper at first, but I settled for cayenne pepper as it felt like more of a lingering heat you get from a good chili that just kind of builds up over time.
Verdict: Brad is selling samplers on the Jameson Cigar Website and I really suggest you pick one up. Once I free up a bit of room or buy a new humidor I’m getting a box or two. I don’t know of a place yet that is carrying them online. I’ll check with Brad and see if there is anyone carrying them yet. Very bold and spicy smoke along the lines of a CAO Brazilia. Maybe I need to do a side by side comparison?
