I’m continuing to work my way through all the cigars I got at the IPCPR in Las Vegas. Last week I took a look at the Isla de Cuba Classic, a creamy surprising fuller flavored Connecticut. This review takes a look at the Isla de Cuba Aged Maduro.
Construction: As with the Classic this is another well constructed cigar. One of the three I tried was a bit tight, but still smoked well.
Burn: Nothing really noticeable except one did give me a bit of trouble, but I was smoking it outside. Overall the other two burned very well.
Flavor: The cigar kicked off with a strong chocolate flavor and lingered in the mouth after the exhale. After a few minutes I picked up a creamy almond note in the cigar. Near the halfway mark some spice started to pick up with some definite black pepper leaving the senses tingling. Some of the sweetness went out of the smoke at this point and started to come across as a mix of cocoa and coffee.
Verdict: Definitely and enjoyable afternoon smoke and from what I’ve read these can be found for under $7 each. A little pricey for me to smoke everyday of the week, but I enjoyed it well enough to keep a few on hand.
