When I started smoking I always associated Drew Estate with flavored cigars, recently I’ve tried some cigars from them that has changed the perception. The Chateau Real Small Club Corona is one of go to morning cigars. I love these on the drive to work or on a chilly morning when I don’t want to spend too much time outdoors.
This year at the 2008 Trade Show they introduced the Chateau Real Maduro. The way Paul from The Party Source was talking about it I couldn’t wait to try it.
Construction: In stark contrast to the light Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper on the older Chateau Real line the Chateau Real Maduro has a rich dark San Andreas Maduro wrapper. The cigar is firm with just a slight give to it, no obvious flaws in the construction.
Burn: Beautiful burn and head of white ash on these cigars. Can’t complain about any I’ve tried.
Flavor: In contrast to the Floral notes I get in the Ecuadorian Connecticut the Maduro is a full bodied spicy cigar. The cigar has a rich bitter cocoa and coffee base to balance out the spices. As far as the spicy notes I picked up some cinnamon and just a touch of vanilla on the sweeter side, while a good amount of pepper really hung on predominately. Near the final third some woodiness started to come out that surprised me.
Verdict: I’ve tried a variety of sizes on this cigar and can’t pin point a favorite. If you like full flavored smokes pick a few of the size you enjoy. I think you’ll agree this cigar is worth a box purchase.

A spicy maduro? Interesting. Spice is not something I usually associate with maduros.
