Contest: I Want New Cigar Swag!
By Jesse | January 13, 2010 |
Alright as much as I love some of the cool humidors, ashtrays, cutters, hats and t-shirts given out by the different cigar companies I have enough. I’d love to see something different.
So time to spout off! What kind of Cigar Swag would you like to see? Let’s get creative and give the cigar companies some new ideas. I’ll add the best ideas to the post and should have some cigar swag to give out to the best entries.
Update: I’ll be posting the winners on Friday. Sorry for the delay folks I’ve been a bit under the weather.

Thanks! I’ve noticed my collection of Hats, T-Shirts and other items was getting rather large. I do have to say I love my Perdomo Vector Lighter though.

Anything classy. Nice Polo chirts, Guyabera shirts… Classic Panama hats with tasteful logos, etc. Nothing obnoxious.
Enough already with the dewrags, skulls, snakes and tattoo-inspired biker crap. Most of us are just regular guys and don’t get into all that stuff.
December 10th, 2009 at 8:40 am
- Also, stuff you could use at the office–pens, paper pads, mouse pad, and a cigar box or jar to put miscellaneous desk top items in.
- For those of us that smoke outside, what about a small, personal heater or fan (or water mister) w/ company logo on it.
- Also for us that smoke outside, how about some gloves, a beanie, hoodie, etc. to help us smoke their stuff in the winter.
- What about a gift certificate every once in a while–that would be nice!
- Beachware, such as frisbees, towels, sandles, tank-tops, etc.
- You only see matches, what about some lighters (non-Bic).

Personally, since my humidor is over-full, I wouldn’t mind a few more of those.
I don’t see a lot of lighters given as swag, so those would be a nice change, and you can’t really have enough lighters.
I recently saw a review for something called a “cigar nubber” It’s a thick base with a spike on one end to let you get every last puff out of a cigar. This is something that could be useful to almost any cigar smoker.
Another potentially useful accessory that could make for good swag is some sort of cigar saver, which allows you to put out and store a partially smoked cigar for later smoking. Assuming the thing works as described it could be very handy.
For golfers, those golf course cigar holder thing would be handy or one of those golf-cigar multi tools (cutter/lighter/divot tool etc)
December 10th, 2009 at 9:07 am
Different types of cigar accessories; cigar spike, stogie nubber, cigar minder, etc
I like the flashlight idea, but having a cheap flashlight is often like having no flashlight at all.
December 10th, 2009 at 10:18 am
lets read @cigarjack about wanting some new swag – http://bit.ly/82GOhX – and its a contest to win stuff :)

Higher price – Custom designed computer case with laser cut logos and a removable ashtray. Maybe throw in a spot to hold a lighter (would come with a lighter)
Lower price – long sleeve t-shirts, socks, wallets, 3 finger cases, golf tees, golf balls, dvd carriers, skin-it style graphics for cell phones/laptops.
Mike
Information overload :)
December 10th, 2009 at 9:26 am
I’d love to see the manufacturers bring back tobaccianna like box openers and ring gauges…also logo cigar molds, like the ones sold by Camacho, are a great collectible. Coolest swag of all are highly sought after ‘personal gift only’ LE cigars like the ones Carlito gives away…also signed cigar boxes make a great giveaway.
December 10th, 2009 at 10:22 am
Cigar screensaver that can be automagically updated with new cigar pictures.
December 10th, 2009 at 10:57 am
Cool contest. My ideas for new cigar swag:
-good roller ball pens
-more lighters
-I’ve seen button up and polo shirts given to cigar shops, but how about us smokers?
December 10th, 2009 at 12:11 pm
Give me a nice ashtray, or give me an office humidor.
Something cool: branded sweatpants. People enjoy smoking cigars at home, in their garage, out on their porch, etc. If they’re by themselves, they’re probably wearing shorts or sweatpants. Give me some branded, super-comfortable sweats I can wear.
December 10th, 2009 at 12:42 pm
Anything that can be used on the golfcourse.
Towel, divot repair tools, ball markers, cigar caddy..
December 10th, 2009 at 1:16 pm
Cigar swag should have class and style. Nice shirts, hats, jackets. Maybe at the most it would be nice to see some cigar related rings, pendants, and such. Nothing too Room 101 though. Matt’s stuff is amazing, but we need something for those of us not into a lot of flash (and cheaper).
December 10th, 2009 at 2:18 pm
what goes well with cigars? coffee and booze. what about some branded coffee mugs, or some nice etched high ball glasses to drink some rum over ice out of.
December 10th, 2009 at 8:56 pm
signed boxes
December 11th, 2009 at 12:18 am
How about something for my wife when she asks why the hell I need more cigars?
December 11th, 2009 at 3:21 am
I’d like to see more companies jump on board with stickers, which I love. Also, beer mugs/glasses would be awesome. Also, maybe some iPod/iPhone cases? Mine already smells like smoke, why not represent my favorite brand?
December 12th, 2009 at 12:36 pm
You know, it’d be nice to get a swag lighter that works!
December 12th, 2009 at 3:19 pm
I recently got a Vector with a purchase of a box from Perdomo that is really nice. Works great.
December 13th, 2009 at 4:57 am
Limited addition cigar art – lithos, prints, photos
Music CDs or downloads
Roach clips or whatever the pc name would be
December 13th, 2009 at 4:49 pm
“Roll Your Own” cigar kits — w/prepped leaves, filler, and a box press. Choose a variety of styles. Mebbe with custom labels. “Here, bro, I made it myself!” (Hmm… would that save on SCHIP?)
Or maybe your own “infusion” kits (a la Drew Estates).
Better: an ID kit or “Teach Yourself” kit: some way to help puffers understand the nuances of cigars (like a scent kit for wine), e.g., natural leaf, prepped leaf, different types of leaf, etc.
December 18th, 2009 at 1:22 pm
Oh: some other WAY cool stuff — and I am not plugging their seegars (although I like ‘em!), just pointing out an item I rec’d *gratis* and which I much appreciate.
When you buy a single-stogie cedar travel humi OR a 3-fer high-gloss travel humi, they include the cigars for free. I *love* my travel humis and have NEVER rec’d anything like ‘em. They MUST be fairly inexpensive or they wouldn’t be included with the cigars, right? And best of all–if you give ‘em away to other BOTLs, THEY will appreciate ‘em too! Check em out:
http://www.vegassantiago.com/shop/category.php?id=15791911
Manufacturers could buy in bulk, stamp with mark, spew like candy!
December 18th, 2009 at 8:31 pm
Last thought:
given that we all have our normal and regular cutters: how about some SPECIALTY cutters? Like–a high-quality cat’s eye? or a LARGE gauge cutter? Or a punch with INSTRUCTIONS? (Or a Punch punch… get it? you know, from Punch!).
Saw a neat “draw enhancer” recently… a long thin spike fitted into a ball point pen type dealio. Again: looking for items that we do not all have yet.
December 18th, 2009 at 8:34 pm
Building on my first comment (post #47): like when you go to a scotch tasting and they fill you in on all the ingredients at various stages (and then burn a bit of peat for atmosphere). A lil kit of “here’s what goes into our cigars.” Edumacational things.
Stogie guys are way into the details of each an’ every cigar: why not GIVE them those details in the most tangible way?
December 29th, 2009 at 8:13 pm
Oh, and how about branded iPhone or BlackBerry apps???
January 3rd, 2010 at 8:27 am
laser pointer with interchangeable heads, one of which is the vendors logo!
Or how about a tiny robotoy (perhaps a cigar beetle), one that scuttles around the desk and senses the edge and turns away…
January 3rd, 2010 at 5:01 pm
Or something–ANYTHING–to go on the keychain. Army-style can opener (with cigar punch)? Mini-LED flashligh (with torch lighter)?
Oh, oh! A Leatherman (TM) style tool (you know, with pliers and blades and such) but with CIGAR TOOLS! C’mon, seriously: THAT would be AWESOME! (And don’t forget the mini-keychain version: pliers, coupla screwdrivers, and cigar scissors!).
January 6th, 2010 at 4:55 pm
Speaking of cigar swag, this past Christmas my wife gave me a wonderful and unique gift. Typically, I buy at least two cigars I’ve never tried, whenever I visit my local tobacconist. Sometimes, you find a gem! Anyhow, she bought me a cigar package from a company named Bow Tie Cigars. It was great because the package was all-inclusive. It had the cigars, matches, cutter and even mints. I took the package to a New Years Eve party at my brother’s bar. We all smoked and the package really went over well with everyone. Needless to say, I have a new brand of cigar that I smoke. For any readers that enjoy a good cigar, the address is bowtiecigar.com. Happy 2010!!!!
January 7th, 2010 at 9:44 am
Okay: one more (’cuz I love ‘em; hope it hasn’t been mentioned).
I rec’d a sample cigar from Vegas de Santiago. Came in single cedar tube. I have used it over and over — really neat! In fact, I am amazed that they didn’t brand it. Given that their ‘gars come this way, one assumes that they are, if not cheap, at least “economical.” THAT would be a neat swag: a branded (picture “burnt in”), re-usable, cedar single humi!
January 13th, 2010 at 11:39 am
Jesse? You okay?
January 13th, 2010 at 6:19 pm
Heh! Time for one more?
BRANDED breath spray (like Cigar Clear Breath Freshener) or mint tins or GUM! (Didn’t some guy earlier ask for “something for the loved ones?”) (I like SPRY dental gum — peppermint — for it’s long-lasting, odor absorbing abilities…)
Cigar smokers are under assault on all sides — let’s have something to ease the dismay caused to others!
January 13th, 2010 at 6:22 pm
Sorry! I just keep thinking of more:
Branded humi-packs! What with all the bombin’ and herfin’ goin’ around, who ever has enough of those lil mini humi packs?
January 13th, 2010 at 8:25 pm
Okay, I lied: here’s more:
Air freshener (or odor eliminator or whatever you call it): no, not of the STINK variety, but little branded cans of those high-end sprays (like Febreze).
Or how about a handy, dandy notebook? A cigar-tasting notebook. Like this guy’s: http://tinyurl.com/yaenl3e but branded and with, say, cigar quotes sprinkled within or amusing anecdotes, facts, cartoons, etc.
I think that’s it. Really. I stand by my earlier “cigar tasting” kit, though. Would be nice to touch, sniff, and, heck, taste the diff among various wrappers, fillers, geographies, whatever…
Thanks for the opportunity!
January 14th, 2010 at 3:52 am
how about a director’s chair? or a cell phone case, or sew on patches (like the miltary), belts, ties, watches?
January 14th, 2010 at 10:03 am
Oh, and when I say “branded,” I mean, of course, things like:
Menthes de Montecristo
Gurkha Gum
Black & Mild Breath Spray
Romeo y Julieta Room y Rejuvenator
January 14th, 2010 at 10:16 am
Oh, and when I say iPhone app, I am thinking of something like a “Passport,” one of those lil paper notebook thingies where you check off each cigar of a partickler brand as you smoke ‘em. Trouble with those paper-based dillios is that ‘gar makers are always pushin’ out new product. An iPhone app could be *updated*, allow “contributions” from smokers, be used to promote new products, foster that “special club” kinda feel… that sorta thing.
January 14th, 2010 at 11:47 am
Would have to agree… I would love to see some branded torch lighters, I LOVE the CAO Fedora (trying to figure out how to sneak it in to the collection with out the wife noticing…) would like to see more of those.
Maybe Bowling shirts, or the cuban style shirts that have recently made a comeback….
January 14th, 2010 at 5:44 pm
I would say lighter tools, nice pens, cigar cases, beer coozies, portable ashtrays and giant foam fingers.
January 14th, 2010 at 6:28 pm
as I am sitting around in pajama pants, how about some swag pajama pants with logos all over it- or along the lines of the beach ideas- a pair of flip flops that have a cutter and lighter built in to the bottoms?
January 14th, 2010 at 10:45 pm
ok, this one goes into the somewhat more expensive catagory – but these small digital picture frames are pretty cool; have the cigar logo, design etc. around the frame; many now even connect to your wireless internet – so could be set up to show some personal pics and auto-link into the latest info from the cigar company, etc. – nice gift for a good customer and they get some regular advert’s / latest product info on the customers desk
January 20th, 2010 at 1:29 pm
Jesse,
I did not see any Winners posted yet, and I’m late to the game. But…
I like the earlier idea of nice Polo or Guyabera styled shirts, and Classic Panama hats with tasteful logos.
But what you see very few of are reasonably priced apparel in the form of jackets, sweat shirts and yes…even “hoodies”, with cigar graphics and names on the back and/or front.
I would like a nice 2-3 season jacket with the logo of my favorite cigar manufacturer that I can wear in the cooler months. I like fleece for layering under lighter weight jackets. Some fleece jackets or pullovers with logos would be great!
January 21st, 2010 at 11:26 am
Heh! I think (hope) he’s busy working with vendors to secure copyrights to the ideas presented here!
BTW: New iPhone cigar app out:

January 27th, 2010 at 6:17 pm
Well… tomorrow is another Friday!
February 13th, 2010 at 8:34 pm
While this is fairly expensive, it’s a neat multitool and likely easy to incorporate similar in a less expensive, promo version (I refer to the Swiss Army blade multi-sized cigar cutter).
Neat!
